APPROPIATE REP COLORS

Postby Lonewolf » November 23rd, 2006, 5:43 pm

Red, Blue, Black, Brown, Grey, and Beige/Tan are amonsgt the
top rankin' rep colors by Varrios & Hoods, but there's also many
others like purple, gold, burgundy and green used to represent.
But you won't find Homies wearing purple pants or green shoes,
you wont find them wearing gold shirts or burgundy jackets. In
fact, most Homies on the west coast have stayed with traditional
colors mentioned at top, in representing the gangster style. Wether
you're Black, Brown or even White, the same colors are used in
the dress code of the west coast. Pachucos, Cholos, Bloods, Crips,
Bikers, Stoners and Gangsters all have stuck with the same colors.
We can say that Black, Brown, Grey, Blue and Red are manly colors,
or that they're cool colors to wear, and we can say that that's the
way it's always been, or even that colors like green, purple or gold
just not go with the gangster look, maybe even go as far as saying
that they're girly colors. If so, why is it that you can still find pictures
of Zoot-Suiters dressed down in purple? Or a gang member from NYC
from past generation wearing a stripped t-shirt with gay colors like
the ones seen in that movie Gangs of New York? Or a alcapone era
gangster wearing an all white suit, down to the shoes and fedora top?

So what are really appropiate "gangster" colors and how/why did we
all adopt the top ranking colors of today? Ever thought about as to how
that part of us came to be?

It depends how a gang reps it's color(s). If it reps with bandana color only, then any color can work except pink. I remember Evergreen wore green panos combined with the usual cholo colors - white, khaki, gray etc. It looked cool. But all green would have been lame.
