YARDIE (coming soon)

Unread post by Jakk » December 14th, 2006, 7:09 pm

INTRODUCTION

YARDIE is based loosely on Victor Headley’s best selling novel of the same name.
Producers Akbar Shamji and Sameer Patel's interest in YARDIE started in the mid-1990's when the book was optioned to the BBC. The passage of the lead character D from his youth in Jamaica, to his growth in London was to Akbar and Sameer an extraordinary vehicle. It would be used to "expose the complex effects of cold war politics on life in Jamaican ghettos and the ensuing effects on street life in major cities in Europe and the US. There would also be an opportunity to re-position a classic reggae catalogue behind a seminal gangster film."

"At heart this is an immigrants tale......this series of films will be an outsider’s view of how Britain has changed over the last 20 years exposing the culture from the outside in. Drugs, guns, music and gangsters ....... linking street culture to high society....... The opportunity to create a landmark picture setting the tone for a major shift in a nations sub-culture comes maybe once in a decade.....this is a gripping true to life thriller establishing real life British gangsters in a cinematic traditional hitherto reserved for American film.......Ultimately this film is about British identity and what it means to be British in the 21st century."

SYNOPSIS

Yardie tells one man’s story of how the political war being fought on the streets of Jamaica in the 70’s came to the streets of 80’s Britain in the form of drugs, guns, and gang alliances.
