I hope everybody on here gets to view this documentary. It was good, insightful, and thought-provoking.

From the perspective of somebody who didn't grow up in LA, I thought it gave a lot of answers to the origins of some of the Black gangs from back in the day (Businessmen, Slausons, etc.), how they desolved into what was a very positive movement, (the Black Panther) and how there was deliberate interference on the part of the government to kill their cause.

From what I saw, Bone did extensive research on how the Crips and Bloods came to be, how things got progressively worse in South Central, but was ignored until Karen Toshima got killed in Westwood.

Its interesting to see how he's changed his life, and shows that you can still have love for you friends, without self-destructive behavior.

I agree, he's very intelligent and articulate and made a few very profound remarks. I thought dude was sharp when F.E.D.S Mag did a cover story on APB a few years back. He's evolved since and that's a positive. I like what the other brother, Lil Monster had to say as well even though I dont know his whole deal. They had OG's, former Party members, former US members, shit was righteous, man! Geronimo Pratt enlightened me too, half my life I was led to believe Ron Karenga's crew was created to battle BPP but it wasnt the case, just more of that cross dressing fag J. That Doc was excellent. Definately interesting to find that the early blacks gangs were a response to all the white gangs like the "Spook Hunters". They just broke it down to how things got started

Sometimes it seems that people are only interested in things that promote negativity. When something positive is done, such as this very informative and enlightening documentary, people aren't interested. I think there were many lessons that can be learned from it about how to improve the Black community, and maintain the integrity and strength of Black revolutionary organizations.

Did you notice how many of the young homies that Bone interviewed had NO CLUE how the conflict got started in the first place? Fighting, killing and willing to die over an unknown cause. Just imagine if that commitment was directed toward something positive.

Indeed, and that's one of the things that makes it so bad. Many people are willing to die for a worthy cause, but they're fighting and dying for nothing. It was also sad seeing how that little boy had such a pesimistic opinion, and at the end they said he got life. He couldn't have been any older than 14!

There was so much in this detailing the history of gangs I have to watch it again. What had me was how in the beginning Cle insists that poverty had nothing to do with at least him joining a gang, but when the author of the book in which he got the title of the documentary from, asked him that if he (Cle) were to build a factory with union jobs right in Athens Park, and hire the entire gang, would that put an end to the gang being violent and drug dealing? Cle's short answer: Yes.

I'm the one guilty of duplicating. My bad. When I first saw the ad for this on HBO a week ago, I did a search and on the first page nothing with this title came up. I had no idea that it had already been discussed here years ago. It was probably on one of the back pages in the search. I didn't check that far.
