A 15-year-old boy has been shot dead in his bedroom after two men forced their way into his home early this morning. His sister called an ambulance but he died in less than an hour.
The murder is the latest in a spate of attacks in the Peckham area of south-east London. On Saturday, a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death in Southampton Way and on Sunday a man in his 40s was shot dead and another injured at a flat less than a mile away.

James Andre Smarrt-Ford, 16, was also killed in south London after he was shot at least twice at an ice rink in Streatham on Saturday night. Today, Scotland Yard's Operation Trident team, which investigates gun crime in the black community, launched a murder inquiry into the latest shooting of the pupil of St Michael's Secondary School in Bermondsey.

Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson, who is leading the investigation, said forensic teams were still searching the house. "We are still gathering evidence," he said. "The boy was shot while he was in bed. "His sister, who had also gone to bed, administered first aid and the boy was taken to King's College Hospital, but he died at around 2am."

Police said the boy's identity would be released when the family had been informed adding that no post-mortem had been conducted. Neighbours said the teenager was a regular at the nearby Celestial Church of Christ in Bird-in-Bush Road. He is believed to have had two sisters and a brother.

Det Supt Richardson said: "The boy was not known to police before this incident and we are not linking this to gangs or any other incidents which have occurred in the past few days."

I know the police are saying that they are not linking the death of the lad shot in his bed to gangs, but...! Down Peckhams ways, in those ends there is only one explanation - gangs. I understand the boys father (who was described as being 'not at home at the time of the incident') was in hospital recovering from a severe beating he had just recieved - there were two sons - the older one was nicknamed Soldier (had been an army boy) who was involved in the local gang scene...looks like the older brother was the intended victim but that the youngster got the bullets by mistake when the gunmen bust into the house. Tragic still.

Yeah well, MafiaGirl's comes across like 13 year old bedwetter still. Personally, this is nuttin to be proud of, but UK has the highest crime figures in Europe by a long way and sadly, London has higher overall figures than NYC (LIke street robbery , assault etc - less firearms here because of illegality, but more shankings). THE family of murdered Delroy Barnes visited London this week to mark the fifth anniversary of his death.

Police say the 26-year-old computer consultant was an innocent victim of a vicious gangland war fought to decide who would control South London's crack cocaine trade.

He was cut down in a hail of bullets after a car he was in was ambushed near Wandsworth Bridge at around midnight on February 8, 2002.

His sister Michelle Dean and brother Paul, who live in Manchester, visited the scene of his death for the first time on Wednesday.

Michelle,33, said: "I know there is someone out there who thinks it is okay to drive down a street in the middle of the night and shoot someone.

"I want that person in prison. I want to know no one else will die like my brother did."

Operation Trident detectives are offering a £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killers.

Delroy and his friend, Paul Marcus Johnson, were in a blue Ford Mondeo that was chased from Chivalry Road, Battersea, by three or four men in a silver Audi A3.

Cops believe Mr Johnson may have been their intended target.

As they neared the roundabout, the Audi drew alongside and a gunman opened fire with a Mach 10 machine pistol.

Mr Johnson crashed his car outside Battersea police station in a desperate bid to get help but Delroy died at the scene.

The stolen Audi - registration S701 APG - was found burnt out at The Fieldings,Forest Hill.

Witnesses described one of the men in the car as a big black man with a large face and distinctive bulging eyes and aged between 25 to 30.

Cops also want to speak to two men, one black, one white, who were involved in an argument with Delroy and his friends outside Pinter House, Stockwell, about 30 minutes before he was killed.
