Argument Inside a Vehicle Leads to Gunfire

(Buffalo, NY, February 3, 2007) - - Buffalo police say an argument inside a vehicle led to gunfire. Investigators say the car was travelling along William Street Friday night when one occupant got out of the car, fired shots inside, then fled.

The victim, 36 year old Jason Collier of Cheektowaga, is listed in serious condition this morning at ECMC.

There's no word on any arrests this morning.

Briggs Ave. man stable after being shot twice

A Buffalo man was shot twice Wednesday night at his Briggs Avenue home, reported Northwest District police.
Woodie Johnson, age unknown, was listed Thursday in stable condition in Erie County Medical Center. He suffered gunshot wounds to his face and the left side of his chest.

Police said the shooting occurred just before 9 p.m. Witnesses said a blue Pontiac, occupied by three to four men, was spotted leaving the scene

Armed invaders beat man, ransack bedroom

Buffalo police were searching for two gunmen in a home invasion on Weaver Street late Sunday night, according to reports.
The victim told police that two men armed with guns broke into his apartment shortly before 10 p.m. and assaulted him. He was punched and pistol-whipped before the assailants dragged him into his bedroom and ransacked it.

He told police that one of the men held a gun to his neck while the other gunman flipped over his bed and took $175 cash from a safe under the bed. The man also stole an assault rifle with ammunition from his closet, a cellular telephone and a set of keys.

Woman shot in hand while walking with son

A 42-year-old woman was shot Tuesday morning as she walked home with her 14-year-old son on the city's West Side, police reported.
Nancy Wilson, of West Ferry Street, suffered a gunshot wound to her right hand, which injured three of her fingers. She was treated in Women and Children's Hospital.

Central District police said she was shot at about 2:50 a.m. at Hampshire and 19th streets. Witnesses told police they heard four or five shots but did not see anything.

Victim of burglary try is shot at by suspects

A thwarted burglary attempt on Fennimore Avenue led the fleeing burglars to open fire on their intended victim late Wednesday morning, Buffalo police said.
The victim told police four men tried breaking into his house through a rear window at about 11:15 a.m., but couldn't get in because of bars on the window. They then tried to break into a car there before fleeing into another vehicle around the corner.

The victim, who went into his car, was fired upon by the fleeing burglars.

Two men with gun rob East Delavan store

An East Delavan Avenue store was robbed by two men dressed in all black Friday afternoon after one of the bandits pulled out a gun and pointed it at an employee, Buffalo police said.
The bandits made off with $950 from the cash register along with $200 and the paycheck from the employee, police said.

Arrest made after shots kill man, 18, on bicycle

An 18-year-old man was gunned down while riding his bicycle at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the city's Fruit Belt, Buffalo police said.
Jovan Kerkendall of Grape Street apparently left a house near East North and Orange streets to go to a nearby store. On his way back, he was shot multiple times, the shots coming from a green Jeep Cherokee, police said.

Less than 45 minutes later, officers Ronald Ammerman and Wendy Collier of the police Mobile Response Unit stopped a vehicle matching that description and charged Ronald East Jr., 24, of Highview Court, Cheektowaga, the driver, with possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, police said.

Officers recovered a loaded weapon inside the Jeep, according to Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives.

"Tests will be conducted to determine if the weapon is, in fact, related to the shooting incident," Richards said.

Kerkendall, shot several times, was found on Orange Street and died a short time later, police said. This is the city's sixth homicide of 2007.

An autopsy is scheduled to today in the Erie County medical examiner's office.

Armed robbers take $765 from pizzeria

Two masked robbers with rifles held up a West Side pizzeria just as the manager and several employees were preparing to close early Thursday.
Northwest District police said the two entered Zip's Pizza at 409 Grant St. at about 4 a.m. and demanded cash. The manager complied, turning over a brown paper bag containing about $765

Man, 19, says mother beat and stabbed him

A 19-year-old Hudson Avenue man was allegedly beaten in the head with a shovel and stabbed by his mother Monday morning, Buffalo police reported.
Venora N. Garner, 37, of Hudson Avenue was charged with two counts each of felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

The victim, Ronnie N. Drayton Jr., told police that Garner hit him in the face with the shovel, causing two cuts, and then stabbed him in the left arm twice with a steak knife at about 9:30 a.m. in the family's Hudson Street apartment, according to police reports.

Central District Officer Jeff Mott found the knife in the kitchen sink and shovel in the living room, reports stated. Garner reportedly told police she struck her son with the shovel because he refused to leave the house. She denied using a knife.

Pizza deliveryman sitting in car robbed at gunpoint

A pizza deliveryman was sitting in his car during a delivery Thursday morning on the city's West Side when three men stole his cash, police said.
Central District police said the victim, who works for Zip's Pizza at 409 Grant St., was sitting in the pizzeria's car in the 200 block of Vermont Street when he was confronted by three men at about 3:50 a.m.

One of the men used a gun to smash the driver's side window. The robbers then stole between $30 and $40, which belonged to the victim and the pizzeria, and also took the victim's white hooded shirt.

Four masked men shoot victim in left hand

A Plymouth Avenue man was shot in the hand early Monday while he was down the street at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue, Buffalo police reported.
The victim told police he was at the corner shortly after midnight when he was approached by four men wearing masks. One of them shot him in the left hand.

No other information was available. The victim refused to offer police any further information about the incident, according to reports.
