SHOULD PEOPLE START CALLING THEM SELVES OTHER COLORS TOO AND WHY DID THEY START IT WHEN BLACKS WERE THE FIRST ONE TO BE LABEL A COLOR.


WHEN DID MEXICANS /CHICANOS STARTED REFERING THEMSELVES AS BROWN AND WHY?

ITS ALSO KNOWN THAT MANY INDIANS FROM INDIA CLAIM BROWN.

DOES ONE BEING BROWN MAKE YALL THE SAME?



THERE ARE MANY GROUPS OF PPL THAT SAY THEY ARE BROWN BUT TO ME THEY ARE NOT THEY ARE JUST THERE ETHNIC OR CULTURE GROUP LABEL. I REMEMBER THE COLOR LABEL WAS ONLY FOR BLACKS BACK IN THE DAY

what your trying to say is that the whites were the first ones to label blacks as a color. Damn how old are you like 90? back in the day...

The identity of being "brown" for Chicanos/Mexicans started in the late 60's-early 70's. It was part of the Chicano movement. Before that it was taboo to call yourself brown. Light Mexicans would insest they were white and dark Mexicans would just be Mexican or "Spanish American" or some similar label.

East Indians have been calling themselves "brown" for a long time. Longer than Mexicans. What's lame is Middle Eastern people calling themselves brown especially Persians. They're to white. It's kind of ridiculous.

Even if Middle Easterners like Persians are light they still are different from whites because of their language and culture. Look at lighter-skinned hispanics or asians, they might be the same color as whites, but they ain't the same because they identify with being something else. Also 'person of color' is used out here in NYC to mean non-white, kind of replaced or is the politically correct way to say minority.
A persian fool I know gets real offended when black folks think he's white. Personally he don't look too white to me but I could see why a black person might go ahead and classify him as white because he's 'close enough'.

whit culture is different in different places to, that dont mean that german white people are the same as american white ppl, if ur gonna base it solely on skin colour then wouldnt a light skinned mexican be "white" if tho mexicans are known as brown? hmm
