Getting books into jail

Postby Ichilltown » November 21st, 2006, 8:36 am

anybody have a listing of book companies other than Barnes and Noble that can send books to jail. Hudson County Correctional Center wont accept books if a family member mails them. B&N rarely has good books, even the few they will order for you. I've been thru there entire listing of Donald Goines books and they only came up with about 13 different titles.

I know you're not here anymore, but if Blakk means "I Ching", that chinese fortune telling book, then I don't understand how it is revolutionary...

Revolutionary books, I'd say:

-"Days of War, Nights of Love" (one of the best books about these matters, a wide collection of essays, articles, historical accounts, manifestos, etc. To order it or find more about it -> http://www.crimethinc.com/a/days/ )

-Eldridge Cleaver's books

-Fidel Castro's "Economical and societal crisis of the world"

-Che Guevara's "Reminiscences of the Cuban revolutionary war"

-everything Lenin wrote, especially "Government and Revolution"

-everything Marx wrote

^^ Those are the books that first come in mind that goes thru the necessity of revolution in an unequal society.

Besides those books there's a huge amount of good books that tells about the condition of today's world:

-everything from Noam Chomsky (american writer who produce evidence for every argument so that no one can challenge him, excellent books)

-William Blum's "Rogue State"

-Worldwatch Institute's "State of the World" -reports (especially the 2004 report that was concentrated on consumption)

-Michael Chossudovsky's "Globalization of Poverty"

just because a bunch of Europeans decided to use the name of this book for their own purposes - that doesn't change the book itself

If some KKK decided to use the Autobiography of Malcolm X in a twisted interpretation as proof that blacks are evil and demented, does that mean anything about the book itself? Or is it those who misinterpret it that should receive all negativity?

The Bible for those who actually read it from start to end (and don't skip any parts) overall contains a VERY revolutionary message.

Hey Philly, Sun Tzu's The Art of War (ancient Chinese military treatise) actually was pretty revolutionary in its day. Not just for the strategy imparted either but also for the morality of war Sun Tzu was imparting. Unfortunately, his peers wrote that he didn't follow that moral law well. If you like that book check out what his relative Sun Pin wrote. And the Bible was certainly revolutionary in its time. Philly, check out Battles of the Bible by Herzog and Gichon.

A Ghost,

Is that about the Liberian civil war boy soldiers that fought in that mess? Because that war was completely over the top. Completely insane. They just tore their country to shreds. Check out this link on General Buck Naked and his Buck Naked Warrior crew.

Heres the excerpt from Amazon.com

"This absorbing account by a young man who, as a boy of 12, gets swept up in Sierra Leone's civil war goes beyond even the best journalistic efforts in revealing the life and mind of a child abducted into the horrors of warfare. Beah's harrowing journey transforms him overnight from a child enthralled by American hip-hop music and dance to an internal refugee bereft of family, wandering from village to village in a country grown deeply divided by the indiscriminate atrocities of unruly, sociopathic rebel and army forces. Beah then finds himself in the army—in a drug-filled life of casual mass slaughter that lasts until he is 15, when he's brought to a rehabilitation center sponsored by UNICEF and partnering NGOs. The process marks out Beah as a gifted spokesman for the center's work after his "repatriation" to civilian life in the capital, where he lives with his family and a distant uncle. When the war finally engulfs the capital, it sends 17-year-old Beah fleeing again, this time to the U.S., where he now lives. (Beah graduated from Oberlin College in 2004.) Told in clear, accessible language by a young writer with a gifted literary voice, this memoir seems destined to become a classic firsthand account of war and the ongoing plight of child soldiers in conflicts worldwide. (Feb.)"

My sister grabbed it and started reading it before I could, Im gonna start on the Malcolm X one.

That Liberia general stuff is CRAZY!!!

They are related. Liberia played an undeniable role for the actual outbreak of fighting through Charles Taylor's actions. This book looks to be a personal account of the Sierra Leone Blood Diamond Civil war from the perspective of a boy who underwent forced recruitment. Terrible war. Especially for those maimed and crippled that still live there now that the war is over.
