Another thing entirely - been thinking about groups in Northern Ireland and of how many are now more like criminal organisations than thier earlier manifestations as political/terror groups, groups like UDA, UVF and others - bare drug dealing, protection, armed robbery, murder for hire and the likes

Eight killed in UK hate weekend

A BOY of 16 was killed as violence claimed EIGHT lives in a weekend of hate.

A 40-strong mob stamped on Ben Hitchcock’s head, pushed him on spiked railings and knifed him.

Ben screamed “Please help me”, then collapsed. He died in hospital.

The Met Police are investigating Saturday night’s murder in BECKENHAM, South East London, plus three other weekend killings.

Chef Carlos Moreno, 23, was shot in ACTON, West London, as he pulled up on a moped outside a friend’s home at 9pm on Friday.

Early on Saturday Mikey Brown, 23, was stabbed to death after a row in The Works Nightclub in KINGSTON, South West London.

Also early on Saturday, Annaka Keniesha Pinto, 17, was hit when a gunman opened fire at a club in TOTTENHAM, North London. She died in hospital. Cops were quizzing three people.

In BRADFORD, West Yorks, Frank Conway, 33, was killed by a lorry as he ran to escape a gang on Friday.

And a man of 37 was stabbed on Saturday in PETERBOROUGH, Cambs. He died in hospital.

A 34-year-old Iraqi man was killed in a brawl in SCUNTHORPE, Lincs, on Saturday. Nine men from the Iraqi-Kurdish community were held.

And Steve Wilson, 25, was found stabbed to death early yesterday in GATESHEAD, Tyne and Wear.

Friends of Beckenham victim Ben, of Penge, South East London, yesterday laid flowers at the scene of his murder.

Cops believe his killing followed a row between two rival gangs. Witnesses said Ben, one of three brothers, was in a group chased by thugs wielding metal poles and broken bottles.

Samantha Crossingham, 33, said: “It was like a riot.” Seniz Yersever, 40, said: “What I saw was like a blood-thirsty lynch mob attacking a fearful young lad.”

Last night 14 youths in their mid-teens were arrested in connection with Ben’s murder.

The Victims of Crime Trust yesterday called for random and targeted stop and search powers for police to help catch thugs with weapons, backed up with a mandatory five-year jail term for anyone caught carrying an illegal knife.

Just had a look at the NYC ting on the boards, where Alonso lets it be known that in NYC there are NO 'official' C or B gangs, just groups cattin' LA C's and B's and that any connects are a hype thing, an urban myth.

I mean hell, its a very good thing that NYC is a safer city these days than back when, I wonder why little youts want to hype out on a cattin ting, why? Foolishness.

I want to say the same thing for London - the C and B gangs popping up all over are cattin the LA thing, they are catting, just cattin.

London does have some nasty gangs, but the C and B thing is the same as NYC, its got to be said. And we dont need it either

A nasty little war is breaking out in South London, in Greenwich Borough, between a Somalian gang called Woolwich Boys and an African/Nigerian gang called T-Block....a few days back, some Somali/Woolwich Boys shot two African/T-Block sitting in a car, one youth died, the other injured following multiple stabbings and shootings. Thing about the Somali boys is that they don't always look the part because Somali's are lean, thin people...but hell, come from a war torn country and import that war torn trauma to London.......

A teenager shot dead in a car may have been caught up in a bloody gang war between African gangs.

Student Philip Poru, 18, was killed while sitting with friends in Plumstead on Sunday night. They were approached by two men who demanded to know what they were doing and where they were from.

When they replied Peckham one of the men produced a handgun and fired several shots into the silver Ford Fiesta.

An 18-year-old friend of Mr Poru was also hit and seriously injured. He is said to be stable under armed guard in hospital.

Witnesses said they found the teenagers slumped out of the car, two of them bleeding heavily. They were were screaming that they had been shot by a Somalian gang.

A post mortem examination at Greenwich mortuary gave Mr Poru's cause of death as gunshot wounds to the chest.

He was the 22nd teenager to be murdered in the capital this year.

Detectives investigating the killing are examining possible links to a shooting and the stabbing of three men in recent days. Residents on the Woolwich Common Estate said the area was a "war zone", plagued with escalating tit-for-tat violence between Somalian drug pushers and other gangs of African youths.

Children as young as 11 were being dragged into drug running, one said.

A 19-year-old Somalian was seriously injured when he was shot in the chest on the nearby Boyard Road estate shortly after midnight last Wednesday. Then last Friday three black youths were stabbed on Herbert Road. One is still in hospital.

Witnesses to Sunday's shooting said they heard between three and five shots in Long Walk car park around 9.45pm.

Resident Gabriel Komolafe, 37, rushed to help Mr Poru, trying to stop blood pouring from his neck before the ambulance came.

"He was slumped out of the car, half on the car park floor," Mr Komolafe said.

"The other one shot was slumped out of the car as well and there were screaming teenagers standing around trying to help them. We were parking when we found them. My hands were covered in blood and I'd left my two little boys and partner in the car - it was horrible."

Katrina Wright, 21, whose parents live on the estate, said: "The Somalians are trying to take over the estate from the other Africans and run all the drugs and guns on it. It's a war zone. They're fighting over it street by street. There's kids as young as 11 being dragged into this."

Marc Brace, 32, whose flat looks onto the carpark, said he had heard up to five shots. "It was rapid fire," he said. " I reckon it was a semi-automatic pistol."

Greenwich Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Chris Jarratt, said he was putting extra patrols in the area.

Maybe it's mentioned somewhere in this endless thread but what does Manz/Man Dem mean? Is that a specific affiliation or just a popular gang term like posse,crew,boys etc.?

I heard recently that Glasgow had 70 gang related homicides last year. That's a huge number for a city of that size and for a European city. Glasgow is definately the gang capitol of the UK. The L.A. or Chicago of Britain. London seems more like NY. Alot of short lived, light weight gangs. Just an observation.

From what ive heard from older generations the first gangs in glasgow were the "Penny Gangs" in the early 1900's, suppisodly they payed a penny to join the gang and that covered there legals fees n that.

Then the gangs of today started at the starts of the 60's.

Manz (Men) refers to Men/boys who live in a certain area, Man Dem is from the Jamaican patois meaning literally 'those men' or 'those over there', so for example a local gang here in Hackney are dubbed London Fields Man Dem or Holly Street Manz/Man Dem, literally those men from London Fields or those from Holly Street. The moniker Man Dem or is shortened version Manz often follows area gangs names, so yeah, in just the same way as boys/crew etc. Many end with 'boys' or 'crew' also, such as PDC Poverty Driven Children aka Peel Dem Crew.

London was more like Europes NYC in a sense, in that over the last decades the crews were smaller estate based groups (often endeding in 'boys' / drug crews / yardie posse's.

This centuary is seeing things change rapidly from those kinds of groups to more Americanised streetgangs - many cues come form the states, but are also mixed in with cues from Jamaican yardie crews and London things. London has an 'emerging' gang problem, rather than an 'established' gang problem. Though there are many groups who pop up and go, there are many now that are growing and merging - theres likey between 300-400 streetgangs in London right now. On London's emerging gang culture, Snoop Dog said recently that he wanted UK to give him a visa (he can't get one) so that he could come and talk to the young peeps because they would listen to him - but thats BS he he, the manz just wants his visa back! The young ones are on a real hype and its blowing up big style, a negative thing. Interestingly, crime is generally falling in UK compared to the 80's or 90's - apart from firearm offences and stabbings between these emerging gangs. While the economy has grown stronger, many inner city young people have been excluded from a slice of the pie. It better being a Polish immigrant with plumbing skills than being a British teen from the inner cities for a future.

In the North of UK, in the city of Manchester, there have been more established gangs emerging since since the 80's, rather than London's emerging in the 'noughties', gangs such as Doddington, Gooch, Longsight and others. Manchester is a fairly small city and has more gang impacted youth per se than London and has the reputation of being a very tough town. Manchester is also home to white crime families from an area called Salford, who's kids are as lethal as any of the above mentioned gangs.

I thought Galsgow had a gang culture reaching back to the 30's? Anyhow, in Glasgow, the gang culture is entirely Scottish in style and flavour and is definately 'established' and not 'emerging'. What they call Young Teams (gangs) fight each other in an old school rumble way, group on group for the 'honour' of their 'scheme' (project in US/estate in UK), not generally using firearms but battling with knives, swords, lockbacks, bricks, bottles....Glasgow's gang culture comes out of old sectarian divisions between Catholic and Protestant.......
