since the 70's the mob hasnt run casinos the way they used to be run with less than half of their income reported, now days they still have a little power in vegas but they dont use the casinos for their exploits b/c the feds would shut down the casinos, also the mafia has only 5 large famlies today which are based in NY but have soldiers in Atl(remember the gold club, that was a gambino operation), Cleveland, Philly and in all the other large cities in the US.

I don't know wat is happenin to cosa nostra in usa but i know that in italy is considerably changed.first of all no-one in italy talks about it any more n if some1 does it doesn't call it cosa nostra no longer, but just call it mafia siciliana. In Italy rite now the strongest mob is 'ndrangheta from Calabria who is one of the greatest drug deals organization in the world.1 year n half ago in Calabria was killed the governor of this region n now a lot of local politicians r threatened by 'ndrangheta. On the contrary the most dangerous mob in the south of Italy is Camorra in Naples area, where several gangs fight each other to take control oof the drug deals.

Just from reading news articles and stuff, I surmise the Italian American mafia is still out there, doing their thang.
I believe they (at least some of the head honchos) are paying the Aryan Brotherhood for protection in the penal system, a sure sign that they are but a shadow of their former selves where they were "bigger than U.S. Steel."

The Italian mafia is damaged severely in the US. in the 50's they were are there peak of power. During the 70's things started going down hill a little bit. then in the mid to late 80's thing really turned out bad. before you knew it snitches were everywhere and by the 90's they lost alooooot of power. in the 80's the Gambinos used to be 400 MADE guys, now i dont think there is even 150 made guys or even 100.

The Italian Mafia (La Cosa Nostra) is gone is many cities, such as Denver, Dallas, New Orleans, and San Jose to name a few. The families remaining in Pittsburgh, Tampa, and Los Angeles are about the size of a single crew. The families in Cleveland, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Milwaukee are slightly larger, but are still weak and ineffectual. However, there continues to be considerable Mafia activity in Buffalo, Boston, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Detroit, where the families still control lucrative gambling, loansharking, and extortion operations. Finally, the five New York Mafia families and the Chicago family are still considered a significant organized crime threat, though they not as powerful as they once were. Besides the usual street rackets, they continue to be involved in labor racketeering and various legitimate industries, and in recent years have moved into sophisticated new crimes like stocks/securities fraud, computer fruad, and health care fraud.
