I think it depends on what gang, who they know and how they carry themsleves. There are many factors. But of course its going to be tougher for a black than a white.

In the 1980s it was common to have 2 or 3 black vatos in any dayroom/dorm/unit in the halls/Y.A./LA County

Today in the 2000s + there are very few blacks but they're still there

I even know about black shot callers within Varrios in L.A. County...
