I hope these fighter's find an organization that pays them what they are worth.

That said, imo, yeah he's an egotistical dick who acts tough but really isn't running the UFC's stable of fighters like a pimp runs a stable of hos.
Still, he's been good for the sport of MMA and the UFC so far. I suppose we have to take the bad with the good for now... lol. It would be nice to see another well run clean organization emerge and go toe to toe with the UFC. Pride did for a long time but ended up being dirty.. outed as front for the yakuza crime organization over which they lost their television contract.
Some have gone defunct like the Don King backed World Fighting Alliance while others continue to restructure (the IFL, EliteXC and Bodog Fight) in hopes of giving the UFC a run for theim money and it will be interesting to see if Dana can keep his iron contract hold on his fighters should any of these other MMA fight organizations start to realize serious profits.oso1 wrote:I heard about Tito Ortiz leaving. CBS is probably the best channel to be on for any show because it's broadcast TV.
Now all they have to do is shake the stigma of being second class to the UFC and there gonna be golden.

Old Shatterhand wrote:Agreed. That deal was offered to the UFC first remember but Dana didn't want to give up any control so declined it. That might have been a major mistake. Time will tell.$outhPhillypuppet wrote:EliteXC has already made a major move against the UFC by signing the CBS deal.

The problem with the deal with CBS is instead of showcasing the sport for what it is, EliteXC is going to have Kimbo Slice headlining a less then stellar match-up. Which means MMA is going to have more bandwagon fans who don't really know the sport at all. I guess exposer is nice, but I for one can't stand this new breed of TUF fans who really don't know the sport or the fighters at all.
And I for one predict Fedor by Armbar.

One thing the early UFCs, Battlecades, etc... did (even as skewed as they were) was sort out the rubbish from the real, so to speak, and provide a framework for what became the sport of MMA. Like you.. I prefer quality over quantity. But we need to realize I think that more exposure and more fight venues offers the opportunity for more fighters to fight. In an oligarchy you get these one sided fight contracts and few fighters fighting. Again, no disrespect to the UFC or what they've accomplished but I think the competition will be good for the sport and the fighters. .EmperorPenguin wrote:Old Shatterhand wrote:Agreed. No doubt, and I truly believe that sooner or later fighters will be able to fight where they please. Similar to boxing, in that you won't have a Don King type figure (IE: UFC) hanging over the fighters saying you fight for me and only for me. It's just a matter of time. More of a take for fighters and freedom to fight who and when they want.

they also get the freedom to not fight who they should.
In a boxing system I don't really see many fighters wanting to fight Machida or Huerta and Anderson silva would of never got a title shot.
The problem with the boxing system is that if your not a huge name fighter you gets no love at all.
And if your a no name fighter with talent the big name fighters don't have to fight you.

It's a delicate balance, but it comes down to fan demand. If the fans are demanding to see a fight and both fighters are free to fight one another, they're going to fight, unless one wants to lose his fan base and makes himself look stupid (See Tito Ortiz when he wouldn't fight Liddell). Fedor and Couture would fight tomorrow if Couture was free to. See how fast the Fedor and Sylvia fight happened once Tim was free to fight? Fans dictate those fights, not the promoter. It is a tricky situation, but I think having the freedom to fight who you want, or even to cross promote like EliteXC does is much better for the fans then a lock down system like the UFC, where in if you're not in the UFC, you're not fighting those fighters and vice versa. As a individual they also stand to make more money. It's just a matter of time.
