Paul Pierce fined by NBA for throwing a gang hand sign
Paul Pierce was fined $25,000 by the NBA for flashing a Piru Blood gang sign at the Atlanta Hawks center Al Horford. During game 3 of their playoff loss, Al Horford hit a big shot, after which he trash talked Paul Pierce.
A timeout was called after the shot was made and as Al Horford walked to his bench, Paul Pierce moved toward center court, making sure Horford could see him, and flashed a hand signal in the air.
We know Pierce is from Inglewood, but what Piru neighborhood did he grow up in?

Pierce use to ball at Rogers Park (NHP's hood). He attended Morningside and Inglewood High School but I doubt if he ever banged.. he went to basketball camps during the summer months and was rarely if ever seen in the actual neighborhood. If there is any relevancy he hired a brother from Crenshaw Mafia to work for him and is an extremely close friend.
Danny Ainge also made that comment about it meaning Blood Sweat and Tears. I couldn't help but laugh.
Pierce is very competitive and talks alot of smack.. I heard that was in part why he got stabbed in the face and neck..

I don't like that he threw it up in the heat of passion like that. That is "banging on someone", as a previous poster pointed out. The guy's on the Boston Celtics for crying out loud, gang banging in the middle of a game. Kind of weak. I doubt he throws that up in some bar full of Crips.
If he just threw it up randomly, like a "hi mom"? Honestly, I wouldn't care. I've got no problem with a guy showing affection for his old neighborhood. Gangs started off as politically oriented defense organizations, anyway. who knows, they could be again someday.

How about when Michael Jordan was throwing up Sixties for their 6th Championship???StillNoScript wrote:What about when the Lakers were throwing up that 3-peat sign a few years ago? Looked just like a Blood sign.
Baron Davis often throws up what appears to be the Swans sign...
For someone watching it on TV or in the nose bleed section we have no clue as to what all this means, you have to be on the floor or have the inside scoop to really know the purpose of those hand signs really are. But it is sort of weak to bang on an NBA court where you know it won't escalate to anything more than a brief squirmish.. its not like you will get rushed by a group of enemies with knives and guns... and its equally dissatisfying to see it done on national tv where kids all over the nation can see.. then think it is was a 'cool' move.
Bottomline, it doesn't matter one way or the other for me personally, but I think any gang signs flashed during a professional game should be used with better judgement, understanding there are millions watching and it will be scrutinized by the masses.

Danny Ainge is a comedian. He knew what the sign was. There were players affiliated with gangs in his day, too. He was just defending a fellow Celtic.$outhPhillypuppet wrote:Im still laughing at the fact they tried to make it seem like he got mad and walked over to the other team to throw up "blood, sweat and tears"
"Blood Sweat and Tears" LOL. It is funnier the more you say it...

You don't remember that 3 peat sign? It was exactly the same as a Blood sign. Not wise for people to be running around LA throwing up a sign that is identical to a gang sign. But if anyone could get away with it, it would be the Lakers.AllhoodPublications wrote:How about when Michael Jordan was throwing up Sixties for their 6th Championship???

I'm joking, obviously. But that 3 peat sign was identical to a Blood sign. I understand there are legitimate purposes for throwing signs that may look like gang signs, but I still don't think it's wise to run around LA throwing up a sign that's identical to a real gang sign, especially a common gang sign, like the basic "B" or "C" sign. Besides, if Kobe were to get his hand shot off, it would have been too late at that point. They already beat the Kings. What good would it do me?Y.G. wrote:StillNoScript wrote:Whatever you say. I'm sure there are other parts of Kobe's body that you wouldn't mind blowing off since you are obviously joking. But statements like that are amongst the ignorant things done on earth, shooting one of the most known NBA players fingers for gesturing three-peat with hand signs.. especially in L.A. where Laker fans are plentiful.

I wouldn't shoot Kobe, for any reason. But I'm not saying some lil kid out there trying to put in work wouldn't blow his hand into a thousand pieces when throwing up his 3 peat sign, which is identical to a Blood sign.AllhoodPublications wrote:I'm sure there are other parts of Kobe's body that you wouldn't mind blowing off since you are obviously joking. Now, in closing, I'm sure you've seen this sign before...

They'd stand a better chance of rolling through a Piru dominated community than waiting around for a Laker parade or post game interview. I think you're reaching, and highly unlikely to happen in the city that he has helped bring home 3 championships too.StillNoScript wrote: But I'm not saying some lil kid out there trying to put in work wouldn't blow his hand into a thousand pieces when throwing up his 3 peat sign, which is identical to a Blood sign.
