The Valachi Papers is a good read, if you can find it. I think it's out of print. You might wanna check out Underboss- Sammy the Bull's biography.

lennon, read savianos' gomorrah if you want recent stuff. the guy lays some inside stuff from all over the world on the italians. the fbi and italian authorities and agencies helped him write his book as well...

Last Gangster - George Anastasia was a good book as well, if you're interested in reading about Philly.

I give you guys credit for being able to read those books. Spending all that time reading about criminals makes my mind go numb at even the though. It's all time that could have been spent reading about something important like World War II or the Soviet Union or South American novels. Reading about how some old guy from Italy came over and was too weak to work every day so chose to turn to crime/robbery is something I still can't visualize myself doing.

Anything beats reading about a man who pretty much kept taking the easy way out his entire life (killed, cheated, stole until he got his way). I don't blame anybody for reading these books though. Hollywood makes gangsters look like this.

Historical reading generally tends to be my primary material, by quite a large margin actually. However, that's not to say I don't read books in other categories. As you can clearly see above, my crime readings are very far and few between. There are perhaps a handful of other books on the subject I've reading; hardly the issue you're attempting to make it.

Oh, and it also has nothing to do with Hollywood's portrayal of "gangsters".

Hitler joined the army, he joined the Nazi party, he spent time in jail for his beliefs and still persued them. He was awarded with I think the highest awards that can be given to a corporal twice. He by no means took the easy way out. Sure his idealogy and war left over ten million dead but it still doesn't qualify as him taking the easy way out.

MURDER MACHINE IS THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ ON LCN....



These guys were cold blooded and ruthless, all the way gangsters. I dont think a crew like that has existed in the LCN since MURDER INC.Most those dudes werent even made. BUt most went out like some gangsters when they faced trial and didnt snitch or roll, most took the time, in alot of cases LIFE WITH OUT PAROLE. Straight Thugs. Thing is how they did it was so clean and organized
