The Valachi Papers is a good read, if you can find it. I think it's out of print. You might wanna check out Underboss- Sammy the Bull's biography.

Last Gangster - George Anastasia was a good book as well, if you're interested in reading about Philly.
I read a book about Trafficante a while back, but I forget what it was called...I'd definately recommend it if I could recall the name.
Made Men: The true rise and fall story of a Jersey crime family by Greg Smith is a good read as well.

I give you guys credit for being able to read those books. Spending all that time reading about criminals makes my mind go numb at even the though. It's all time that could have been spent reading about something important like World War II or the Soviet Union or South American novels. Reading about how some old guy from Italy came over and was too weak to work every day so chose to turn to crime/robbery is something I still can't visualize myself doing.

There's only so much you can read about World War Two and the Soviet Union before it becomes a blur of dates and dull information.MiamiParadise wrote:I give you guys credit for being able to read those books. When tired of those two subjects. Read about recent Chinese history or the American revolution. Anything beats reading about a man who pretty much kept taking the easy way out his entire life (killed, cheated, stole until he got his way). I don't blame anybody for reading these books though. Hollywood makes gangsters look like this.Azure9920 wrote:There's only so much you can read about World War Two and the Soviet Union before it becomes a blur of dates and dull information.
when in actuality they really look like this

Re: good books on lcn
Historical reading generally tends to be my primary material, by quite a large margin actually. However, that's not to say I don't read books in other categories. As you can clearly see above, my crime readings are very far and few between. There are perhaps a handful of other books on the subject I've reading; hardly the issue you're attempting to make it.MiamiParadise wrote:When tired of those two subjects. Oh, and it also has nothing to do with Hollywood's portrayal of "gangsters".

Hitler joined the army, he joined the Nazi party, he spent time in jail for his beliefs and still persued them. He was awarded with I think the highest awards that can be given to a corporal twice. He by no means took the easy way out. Sure his idealogy and war left over ten million dead but it still doesn't qualify as him taking the easy way out.lennon wrote:thts just the same as reading books about world war 2 and hitler etc........a man who chose the easy way by killing endless amount of jews and trying to steal countries......all the same shit but sum things interest people more thn others

So you're telling me Hollywood has no effect on the sales of mafia books? Is that what you're telling me? That Goodfellas, Scarface, Godfather, Casino and other gangster flicks have no effect on American's fascination with the mob?Azure9920 wrote:There are perhaps a handful of other books on the subject I've reading; hardly the issue you're attempting to make it.

Oh...he reminds me of my father. For his beliefs he was rediculed and he was an artist just like Hitler, and just like Hitler he's a crazy phsycopath. I guess if my father was Lucifer, I'd be Damien.MiamiParadise wrote:Hitler joined the army, he joined the Nazi party, he spent time in jail for his beliefs and still persued them. Re: good books on lcn
but ur contradicting ursel saying u dont like reading books on criminals wen hitler was basically just a criminal of war.......just went about it in a different wayhe too was in the same mindset as any other criminal killing ...stealing... putting fear in innocent people.....plus all stuff iv red about war n hitler just bores the nipples off me.......get a better read out of any other criminal books anyday........... u sound like his numba 1 fan......u a nazi like???????MiamiParadise wrote:Hitler joined the army, he joined the Nazi party, he spent time in jail for his beliefs and still persued them. No I am not a Nazi or pro-Nazi. But Hitler is fascinating to read about when comparing him to a mindless gangster. You're comparing the most influential man in modern history to a gangster in America...

im not saying tht they are exactly the same but i am saying they have similar qualitys that are very alike and there is no dening it.....totally agree he was a very influential but every 1 like reading different things and those books appeal to sum and not to others.........does not mean tht people who enjoy reading and are interested on the mafia are wasting their time and they should be reading about hitler, ww2 or american or chinese history........every 1 is entilted to their opinion and wot might seem a waste of time to u may not be to othersMiamiParadise wrote:No I am not a Nazi or pro-Nazi. MURDER MACHINE IS THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ ON LCN....lennon wrote:yeah av read the valachi papers but havt read underboss......just ordered murder machine too........any 1 read it???? it any gud????
These guys were cold blooded and ruthless, all the way gangsters. I dont think a crew like that has existed in the LCN since MURDER INC.Most those dudes werent even made. BUt most went out like some gangsters when they faced trial and didnt snitch or roll, most took the time, in alot of cases LIFE WITH OUT PAROLE. Straight Thugs. Thing is how they did it was so clean and organized
