Some people consider synthetics like MDMA and LSD to be hard drugs, but only because they're synthetic. In terms of actual risk of physical dependency or physical danger, ecstasy ranks very close to weed, as does LSD.

The lethal dose of MDMA is something like 250 mg per kilo in humans. Assuming that the average E pill has...maybe 100, 150 mg of MDMA in it, and the absorption rate orally is probably under 50%.
