early Black gang graffiti?
are there any photos or album sets with Black gang graffiti from the 70's and back? I've seen many Chicano ones, but couldn't find any for Black tags or hit ups from before the 80's. not sure if they did tag or not though back then?

If you remember the old hood mags,,,,mostly Chicano art now...but back in the early 80's they put some flickas in from black gangs. Heres an old school Watts School Yard Crip roll call on paper.

Re: early Black gang graffiti?
black gang graffiti in the 70's was written in plain letters. The initials of the gang were written with slashes between each letter - S/Y/C, R/S/C ETC.
Crips often wrote "Ca----rip" as a play on the Crip name. Sometimes black gang members write gangster poetry like "let it rain, let it drip, let a Blood kill a Crip" or "Pop pop, bang, bang, a crip is dead and who's to blame".

Re: early Black gang graffiti?
Thanks for that old school hit up, but I didn't know that SYC was in Watts too. Looks like they were crossing out Mansfield too with the "MF" marked out. I didn't even know they wrote with slashes back then, cause now everyone writes block letters and Hip Hop style when it comes to graf (gang or not). So then by the late 70's thats when Black gangs started writing like Sureno gangs? Seems better looking back then though, when it comes to gang graf.

More like early 80's, '81 to be exact.
The book Wallbanging has some pics of 70's and even 60's black gang graffiti.

the first black gang I remember hitting up cholo style was Grape St. maybe because of the Mexican influence in that hood.
