In September 1991, confined to a wheelchair due to his wounds, Chiodo testified in the Windows trial. Chiodo stated that he had undergone a "transformation" from a violent criminal to a man with a conscience. When asked what prompted this transformation, Chido replied "I was shot 12 times,".[6]

Chiodo's remaining family in Brooklyn soon suffered retaliation from the Luccheses. On March 10, 1992, Lucchese associate Michael Spinelli shot Patricia Capozallo, Chido's sister, while she was driving in Bensonhurst. Capozallo suffered wounds to the arm, back and neck but survived.[7][8] On February 2, 1993, the body of Frank Signorino, Chido's uncle, was found in the trunk of a car in East New York. The body displayed several gunshot wounds to the head.[9]

Chiodo provided valuable evidence that helped convict both Amuso and Casso as well as many other gangsters. He had to be flown around in a special plane while a witness because of his weight. [10]. In July 1997, Chido testified against Genovese crime family boss Vincent Gigante in another Windows-related racketeering trial.[11]

On September 11th, 2007, Chido was sentenced to 17 years in prison on racketeering charges but will serve no prison time due to his agreement to testify.[12]Chiodo is currently in the Witness Protection Program.

I started this thread in response to the amount of informants now prevelant in the mob. At one point anyone who crossed the mafia was moved on quickly.The above and many many more like him -have been killed for either cooperating- or having susicions that they may cooperate. Although the terms SNITCHES IN DITCHES is thrown around alot and people think that witnesses are routinely targeted in fact witness murder in America is extremely rare. The federal statue for state and federal prisons-on witness murder carries the death sentence. Several mafia members have been tried on death penalty cases involving witness murder. For anyone outside the mafia and LA EME, committing witness murder has not happened very often and in fact very rarely. The mafia has been teh most notorious in rubbing out potential leaks and have beaten many an indictment and many a case by eliminating the witness-by murder. If you are going to contribute to this thread please post whom and how the informant was murdered -and how he was found out.

]Gambino capo John "Jackie the Nose" D'Amico and long-time family associate Joseph "Joe the German" Watts both pleaded not guilty yesterday to the 1989 murder of Staten Island businessman Fred Weiss, and prosecutors said that they won't seek the death penalty against the two gangsters. D'Amico and Watts were indicted last month for the murder of Weiss whom the late boss John Gotti believed was cooperating with authorities:

Weiss was gunned down as he entered his vehicle in front of his home on Wellington Court. The murder was ordered by Gotti, authorities say. Weiss, 49 at the time of his death, was staring at 70 years in prison for his alleged role in a Mafia-connected dumping operation in Arlington and was rubbed out when Gotti and company feared he might turn canary.

D'Amico, who currently is serving a 2-year sentence for extortion that ends in November, allegedly arranged for New Jersey's DeCavalcante crime family to carry out the hit against Weiss: "Elderly Jersey mob boss John Riggi confessed from behind bars several years ago that he ordered the hit on Weiss as a favor to Gotti." Gotti dismissively referred to the Jersey mobsters as "our farm team."

Anthony Plate in Florida in 1979. Plate worked for Neil Dellacroce in a loan-sharking operation in Miami. Plate once jumped on the desk of a debtor, spit in his face, and threatened to bite chunks out of his flesh. Plate had been indicted with Neil Dellacroce in the death of another loan shark. Dellacroce was afraid that the mere presence of the sinister looking Plate by his side at the defense table would hinder his chances. Plate walked out of a Miami Beach hotel one August morning and was never seen again. Shortly after this Gotti, Ruggiero and Johnson appeared at the Bergin Hunt & Fish Social Club sporting deep suntans. Plate's murder helped Dellacroce win an acquittal in his case.

Wilfred "Willie Boy" Johnson was a mob guy that other wise guys loved to have around. He was a "gofer" who would do anything he was told in order to curry favor with the men he idolized. By the time he was in his mid-40s, his allegiance had already cost him 18 years in prison for assault, robbery, and murder. A long-time friend of John Gotti, Johnson served the Dapper Don in many capacities including driver, bodyguard, and gunman.

Willie Boy would come to have another moniker that Gotti didn't know about. To the FBI he was "Wahoo," a star mob informant with impeccable information.

Johnson's mother was Italian, but his father was part Cherokee Indian thus preventing him from ever becoming a made member of the mob. Nevertheless, with people like Gambino Family underboss Neil Dellacroce appreciating his talents, he became a trusted and valued family associate.

Retired Lt. Remo Franceschini of the Queens District Attorney's Squad in his book, A Matter of Honor, gives this description of Johnson:

"He was real stocky, about five-feet-nine inches and well over two-hundred pounds, looked like a professional wrestler. Size twenty-one neck, gravel voice. You didn't want to meet Willie Boy on the street, and if you met him you'd better have backup ammunition in your pocket because six bullets were not going to stop this guy. He was the type of guy who, if he got shot, he would almost try to rip the bullets out of his own chest and then get really pissed off. 'You shot me? Now you're in f—kin' trouble.'"

When Gotti joined the Gambino crew headed by Carmine Fatico in the mid-1960s, he brought Johnson with him. Willie Boy was used as an errand boy and to collect overdue loans. In the book Underboss, by Peter Maas, Sammy Gravano comments on the relationship between Gotti and Johnson:

"Although, on the surface, Willie Boy played the obedient Tonto to Gotti's Lone Ranger, he seemed to take special pleasure in reporting what Gotti was up to. Gotti's idea of humor left plenty to be desired. And Johnson seethed with resentment as Gotti delivered derisive asides about 'redskins' and 'half-breeds' and often treated him as a second-class citizen."

In the mid-1960s, Johnson was convicted of robbery and jailed. Mob protocol decrees when a crewmember is sent away to prison that the capo makes sure the wife and children are provided for. Apparently Johnson believed this myth and when Fatico failed in his duty, Willie Boy decided he would get even by becoming a paid government informant.

To the FBI, Wilfred Johnson became BQ 5558-TE. The "TE" stood for "Top Echelon," and the "BQ" meant "Brooklyn-Queens." Johnson's code name was "Wahoo."

In May 1973, John Gotti, Angelo Ruggiero, and Ralph Galione were involved in the murder of James McBratney in a Staten Island bar. A waitress from the bar soon identified Ruggiero and Galione as two of the killers, but the identity of the third man was still unknown. It was until Johnson heard Gotti bragging about the killing and notified the FBI, who then notified the New York City Police Department. When Gotti realized the police were looking for him he went into hiding.

Thanks to Johnson, The FBI arrested Gotti on June 3, 1974, over a year after the murder. A note placed in Johnson's FBI file stated that he "was the sole basis for the apprehension" of Gotti. For turning in his boss, Johnson was paid $600.

After Gotti pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted manslaughter for the McBratney murder, he spent most of his prison time at the Green Haven Correctional Facility. There, ironically, he would share time with his good friend Willie Boy Johnson, who was serving time for armed robbery.

Johnson's FBI handler, Special Agent Martin J. Boland, let his superiors know how valuable an informant Johnson was. In addition to supplying information that resulted in Gotti's arrest, he helped solve several burglaries and provided information that led to the arrest of Gambino Family associate Salvatore Polisi. But, as Jerry Capeci points out in Mob Star, informants "whose value depends on maintaining criminal credibility can be troublesome. They test the patience and resourcefulness of agents." FBI Agent Boland noted:

"Case agent had handled this informant single-handedly; has to contend with the informant being arrested [for] counterfeiting,…receiving stolen property…and armed robbery… the above arrests and informant's activity within the underworld has presented problems which Agent Boland has handled efficiently without recourse to higher bureau authority. It is noted Agent Boland received a letter of commendation in [a fraud case] for handling liaison with the Brooklyn District Attorney."

In the late 1970s Johnson reported on the murders of several Gambino associates, including Tommy DeSimone, a minor mob figure made famous by Joe Pesci's fictionalized portrayal of him in the movie Goodfellas.

One of the cases Johnson came up empty on was the disappearance and presumed murder of John Favara, Gotti's ill-fated neighbor who was responsible for the accidental death of Gotti's young son Frank. Up until this time the FBI files had indicated how accurate Johnson's information was, but on this incident he crapped out. One would think that with his close friendship to Gotti, and the fact that he couldn't provide any information in this matter, that he had some involvement in it.

After Johnson's release from Green Haven, his FBI control agent, Martin Boland, was transferred. Although not sure of his new handler, James M. Abbott, Johnson agreed to continue with the same stipulation that "he never be compromised or told to testify." In fact, a memo placed in his file stated: "He will not testify under any circumstances and would deny he ever cooperated in the event he was ever surfaced. Source is very sensitive as to his confidential relationship and was given assurances by agents Boland and Abbott."

In December 1981, New York police detectives watched as Johnson handed a package to a drug dealer in exchange for a paper bag that he threw into the trunk of his car. Detectives followed Johnson to his home in Brooklyn. When Willie Boy opened the trunk to get the bag the detectives approached him. The bag contained $50,000 which Johnson quickly claimed came from his gambling operation. Still on probation after having served less than four years of a 10-year sentence for armed robbery, Johnson got scared. He told the officers to take the money because if his parole officer found out about it he would be sent back to prison.

The detectives arrested him for attempted bribery and Johnson was soon indicted. To avoid having to return to prison, Johnson agreed to become an informant for the New York City Police Department. Johnson did not tell the district attorney, who arranged for Johnson's indictment to be sealed, that he was already an informer for the FBI, nor did he tell the FBI about his new position with New York's finest.

With the $50,000 donated to the police pension fund, Johnson began work for the New York Police Department. One of his first tips was where they could find the body of Bonanno capo Alphonse "Sonny Red" Indelicato, a murder in which Johnson may have been involved. He also reported on Gotti and his brothers, and in June 1981 gave up a dice game in Little Italy where Frank DeCicco and Anthony Rampino were arrested, and $100,000 confiscated.

Most of Johnson's information, however, continued to go to FBI Agent Abbott. Johnson helped draw a layout of Angelo Ruggiero's home so agents could plant listening devices in the area where he held his meetings. They also tapped his daughter's telephone after Angelo blabbed to Johnson how he used it to make telephone calls. Johnson kept the agents abreast of Ruggiero's narcotics involvement, especially after his brother, Salvatore Ruggiero, was killed in a private plane crash. It was Johnson who let the FBI know that Angelo believed he was a "dead man" when he realized Paul Castellano and Neil Dellacroce, his uncle, were going to find out about his role in dealing narcotics from the FBI recordings.

When the arrests from the Ruggiero drug operation came down, they included, in addition to Angelo, John and Gene Gotti, John Carneglia and several others. Johnson reported to his FBI handlers that "John Gotti is on the carpet with Big Paul Castellano over the drug bust. Paul feels John was either involved himself and if he was not, then he should have known his crew was involved and therefore he cannot control his crew."

Shortly after the arrests the FBI picked up rumors that two FBI agents were to be hit. When an agent brought this to Gotti's attention he became annoyed and claimed, "That's just Angelo, shootin' off his mouth, blowin' off steam."

Johnson reported that "no personal recrimination will be made on any FBI agent as they would have to be approved by Big Paul and at this time Gotti and Ruggiero are lucky they have not been clipped themselves."

In late 1984 Assistant U. S. Attorney Diane Giacalone was preparing her RICO case against John Gotti and others. Giacalone was said to be a Lily Tomlin look-alike; she was portrayed by Lorraine Bracco in a made-for-television Gotti movie. (Bracco gained fame playing Karen Hill, the wife of wise guy Henry Hill in the movie Goodfellas, and Dr. Jennifer Melfi, Tony Soprano's psychiatrist in the HBO's hit series "The Sopranos.") Giacalone grew up in Ozone Park and claimed that she often walked past the Bergin clubhouse and its assortment of mobsters and mobster wannabes.

Giacalone asked the grand jury to indict Johnson. She then planned to expose him as an informant thereby forcing him into the Witness Protection Program. The FBI's Gambino Squad headed by Bruce Mouw was less than thrilled about Giacalone's case. They were working on their own "fool proof' case and were upset when they learned that Giacalone was threatening to reveal Johnson's informant status. They backed out of the case citing "administrative and procedural differences." Top FBI officials, fearful of losing one of their top informants and destroying the confidence of other informants about the FBI's ability to keep a bargain, fought back. However, efforts by FBI agents Thomas Sheer and James Kossler were turned back by the decision of Eastern District U. S. Attorney Raymond J. Dearie to support Giacalone.

Johnson's handler, Agent Abbott, informed Willie Boy about what was about to happen.

"I will be killed," Johnson said. "My family will be slaughtered."

Abbott advised Johnson that his best bet was to take a plea, testify, and go into the Witness Protection Program.

"I will never testify," Johnson stated.

On March 18, 1985, Abbott and his boss met with Giacalone to turn over the "Source Wahoo" files. Giacalone told the agents that she planned on giving them to the defense lawyers, stating that they were entitled to them as discovery material. The agents were confused as to why she was doing this voluntarily. Why not at least wait until they were requested?

"Sorry, boys," she replied.

On March 25, 1985, Johnson's name appeared on an indictment along with John and Gene Gotti, Neil Dellacroce and his son Armond, Charles and John Carneglia, Anthony Rampino, Nicholas Corozzo, and Leonard DiMaria. The 10 men were charged with two RICO counts - racketeering and conspiracy – and faced sentences as severe as 40 years in prison and fines of $50,000.

Seven of the 10 indicted were soon rounded up and arraigned. On March 28, New York City police detectives and DEA agents arrested Johnson, John Gotti and his brother Gene just after 4 a.m. as they played cards at the Bergin Hunt & Fish Social Club. Neil Dellacroce was hospitalized and receiving chemotherapy, while his son and Charles Carneglia had not yet been located.

Johnson was the last to be arraigned. Giacalone told Judge Eugene Nickerson that Willie Boy, now the lone defendant in the courtroom, should be jailed because "no conditions of bail would secure his appearance."

The startled judge asked for an explanation.

Giacalone replied, "The reason is that Mr. Johnson has been an informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a period of over 15 years, including a period up through the present time."

Johnson stood before the judge with his fists clenched so tight that his white knuckles clearly showed the words "true" and "love" that were tattooed on them. He adamantly denied Giacalone's statements.

"Not true, your honor," protested Johnson.

Giacalone repeated to the judge Johnson's statement to Agent Abbott that he and his family would be slaughtered. Nickerson bought Giacalone's argument and Willie Boy was carted off to the Metropolitan Correctional Center where he would spend the next two years. In Mob Star, Jerry Capeci describes Johnson's existence:

"Willie Boy was confined in his cell 23 ½ hours a day. His access to showers and recreation was restricted. A glass door to the pen enabled other inmates to taunt him. In a few days, he complained he found blood in his urine and needed medication. On Easter Sunday, his wife, who had sent messages from Wahoo to the FBI many times, was denied visitation. When his lawyers visited, he was led to them in leg shackles.

"The lawyers demanded a hearing to protest the 'cruel and inhumane' treatment, which they said was Giacalone's attempt to force Willie Boy to become a witness, and to reapply for bail because 'his life is not in danger.'"

Johnson spent 16 months in the special section until the pretrial moves were completed.

A year after the arrests Giacalone won headlines by getting Gotti jailed on a RICO indictment. She also persuaded the judge to revoke his bail. Gotti was placed in the Metropolitan Correctional Center that housed Johnson. Sammy Gravano discussed a meeting that took place between the two there:

"It was up on the ninth floor," Sammy said. "John told Willie Boy, 'You did a bad thing for all them years. But I'll forgive you. It's not the first time it happened. You can never be with us after this case. But nothing will happen to you.' Willie Boy asked John to swear on his dead son's head, and John did. And Willie Boy never did testify.

"John totally conned Willie Boy. I don't know how he fell for this, but he did. Lock, stock and barrel."

During the trial Gotti went back and forth daily to the courtroom for months with Johnson. Willie Boy, represented by lawyer Richard Rehbock, sat near John at the defense table as Gotti's attorneys, Bruce Cutler and Barry Slotnik, ripped apart the prosecution's turncoat witnesses – James Cardinali, Salvatore Polisi, and Matthew Traynor, who had been associates of Gotti. The trial ended on March 13, 1987. Gotti, Johnson and the others were found not guilty. This verdict would seal Gotti's famed nickname of "The Teflon Don." Later, it was discovered that one of the jurors had been bribed.

While in protective custody, Johnson was caught trying to set up a heroin deal over the phone with his son. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a year, but since he had already served more than that much time awaiting the RICO trial, he was set free.

Based on Gotti's commitment to him, Johnson felt he was out of harm's way. Although banned from the Bergin, Johnson was back living in the old neighborhood with his wife and children and working at a construction job. Johnson was also rumored to be dealing in drugs again.

After the trial, the "Source Wahoo" FBI files became a ticking time bomb. The information confirmed that it was Johnson who led the authorities to Gotti when he was hiding after the McBratney murder. The information also revealed that Willie Boy had provided information that allowed the FBI's Gambino Squad to build its narcotics case against Gene Gotti, Angelo Ruggiero, and the others.

Gotti bided his time in reacting to the disclosed information. If Gotti had a soft spot for his old friend it hardened during the summer of 1988. Apparently Johnson had also passed on information to the authorities about the son of imprisoned Colombo boss Carmine Persico. Reportedly Alphonse Persico challenged the Gambino family by questioning, "What are you waiting for?"

In discussing the murder plans with Gravano, Gotti was concerned about the hit team failing and forcing Johnson into government protection where he could give up even more incriminating information. The contract was given to Eddie Lino, an ex-Bonanno associate and one of the shooters in the Castellano killing. Lino reportedly "sublet the contract" to a cousin in the Bonanno Family. The cousin in turn gave the assignment to three Bonanno gunmen to carry out.

On Aug. 29, 1988 the killers struck. At 6:05 a.m., as Johnson walked from his Flatland's home in Brooklyn to his car, the gunmen fired 19 rounds at him. Johnson was hit once in each thigh, twice in the back, and at least six times in the head. The hit team then dropped jack-like spikes on the street to prevent the possibility of pursuit.

Hearing the shooting, Johnson's wife ran out screaming. She cradled his head in her lap, but Willie Boy was dead.

In 1992, Bonanno capo Thomas "Tommy Karate" Pitera and Vincent "Kojak" Giattino were indicted and tried for the murder of Willie Boy Johnson. Giattino was found guilty. Pitera, suspected in as many as 30 killings, was acquitted, but was later convicted of six other murders.

By the mid-1960s, Nino had a wide variety of loanshark customers and was also a silent partner in several businesses. Looking to increase his earnings, Nino became acquainted with Roy DeMeo, who was running stolen cars in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Flatlands and Canarsie. DeMeo had connections with the Lucchese family and had a reputation as a capable and resourceful earner. Nino and DeMeo began making co-loans to loanshark customers. By 1970, DeMeo was officially working for Nino and paying him weekly tributes. In 1972, the two men forced their way into a partnership with a company that illegally processed X-rated films. After it was raided in 1973, owner Paul Rothenberg began to cooperate with authorities. Nino ordered DeMeo to murder Rothenberg, who was found shot to death shortly thereafter.

Shortly after DeMeo's murder, Dominick was arrested in New York; he came back to collect on an old loanshark debt. Dominick started cooperating with the government, providing information on the DeMeo crew and Nino. Dominick's information led to the indictments of both Nino and Castellano. By early 1984, some of the DeMeo crew members were arrested. One of them, Richard DiNome, was murdered on February 4, 1984. Like DeMeo, the killers were never identified, but law enforcement assumed it was the remaining members of the DeMeo Crew. Richard's brother Frederick DiNome also suspected the DeMeo Crew and agreed to become a government witness also.

Ralph was the co-owner of the Englewood Cliffs Mobil Station where he operated his criminal activity out of with twelve other individuals. Then unexpectedly Ralph and his father, Joseph DeSimone who is a capo in the Bonnano family, and Joseph Cariddi, a former Fort Lee fire chief and Joseph DeSimone's brother-in-law was convicted in 1993 with eight other men of racketeering activity that included bookmaking, loansharking, gambling activities and distributing marijuana. Sentencing
Ralph and Joseph DeSimone were looking at long sentences with five years and a $250,000 fine for the gambling, twenty years and $250,000 fine for loansharking, a life sentence with a $4 million fine for marijuana trafficking with an added four years and a $30,000 fine for possessing a unregistered pistol. Ralph DeSimone was suspected of being an informant. He was murdered on June 13, 1998 by James "Little Jimmy" Ida who upon his conviction for his role in the murder, had become consigliere of the Genovese family. Ralph DeSimone was shot, dumped in the boot of his car and left at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York City. Murder Finally Solved
Ralph DeSimone's killers were New York San Gennaro extortionists Liborio "Barney" Bellomo and Michele "Mickey Dimino" Generosa who received reduced sentences. Bellomo was forty at the time of his sentencing, and Dimino, seventy-nine, was sentenced between fifteen to twenty-five months. But James Ida who was fifty-six rejected the court's fifteen year deal that would have satisfied two murders (including Ralph's), and two attempted murder counts including other charges

FRANK HYDELL murdered for informing on the gambino family





wo alleged Gambino family mobsters were indicted yesterday in the 1998 execution-style murder of a suspected Mafia snitch outside a seedy Staten Island strip club.

Thomas (Huck) Carbonaro and John Matera blew away 30-year-old Frank Hydell to keep him from divulging mob secrets, the indictment charges.

Hydell, an associate of the Bonanno crime family, was leaving the now-shuttered Scarlett's topless joint on April 28, 1998, when he met his demise.

He was shot numerous times in the head and chest after being approached from behind by thugs who took off in a light blue Lincoln Continental.

Prosecutor Michael McGovern said Hydell was killed to prevent him from cooperating with law enforcement.

Cops from the NYPD's elite intelligence division and federal prosecutors got a break in the five-year-old case from a Gambino capo who agreed to cooperate late last year, sources said.

Sources said Michael (Mikey Scars) DiLeonardo, a favorite of boss John Gotti, decided to squeal after prosecutors charged him last June with helping to kill a Brooklyn construction worker and a Staten Island businessman.

DeVecchio told Scarpa the doctor was talking to the IRS, sealed court papers allege. DeVecchio allegedly gave Scarpa a photo of Eli Sckolnick and a Queens address. Scarpa sent his son Gregory Scarpa Jr. to whack the doc, prosecutors said.

John Fitzgerald attorney for Joseph Barboza. Attempted murder by carbomb. Boston Crime Family. Attempt to silence his client.

Two of his fellow compatriots and members of his crew, Arthur C. Bratsos and Thomas J. DePrisco, went to raise Barboza's bail. Five weeks later, after raising $59,000 the pair were murdered in the Nite Lite Cafe by soldiers serving under Ralph "Ralphie Chong" Lamattina, who served in the crew of Ilario Zannino. After relieving them of their bail money, they stuffed their bodies in the back seat of Bratsos's car and dumped it in South Boston, hoping to throw blame onto the Irish gangs. However, a mob associate named Joseph Lanzi tipped the cops about the murder. He was later murdered by mafia associates Carmen Gagliardi, Frank Otero and Ben DeChristoforos.

The FBI began diligent efforts to turn Barboza into an informant. In December, Joe Amico, another friend of Barboza’s, was murdered. The following month, after a ten-day trial, Barboza was sentenced to a five-year term at Walpole on the weapons charges. In the summer of 1967, Steven Flemmi met with Joseph and informed him that Gennaro Anguilo and his brothers had plans to murder him. In June 1967, Barboza turned FBI informant while imprisoned for murder, and eventually testified against Raymond Patriarca, Sr. before becoming one of the first informants to enter the Witness Protection Program.

Barboza went on to testify against Raymond Patriarca and many high-ranking members and associates of the New England family. On June 20, Patriarca and Tameleo were indicted for conspiracy to murder in the 1966 killing of Providence bookmaker Willie Marfeo. On August 9, Gennaro Angiulo was accused of participating in the murder of Rocco DiSeglio. Finally in October, six men were charged with the March 1965 murder of Edward “Teddy” Deegan. Shortly after the indictment of Raymond Patriarca, which drew front page stories about Barboza as a turncoat, Barboza wrote to the Boston Herald: "All I want to be is left alone." The La Cosa Nostra was willing to pay Barboza $25,000 to quit talking. He showed some interest in the deal raising the price to $50,000 which was agreed upon but later turned down after consulting his lawyer.

Gennaro Anguilo was later found not guilty. Despite efforts by reporters to coax jurors to explain their deliberations, none did. Twenty years later, however, jury foreman Kenneth Matthews said none of the sixteen jurors had found Barboza believable stating: "He didn't help the state at all. He wasn't reliable. He was nothing as a witness."

While the trials were going on, the mob tried to get at Barboza by planting a bomb in the car of his attorney, John Fitzgerald. Resulting in Fitzgerald losing his right leg below the knee. After that Barboza was moved around frequently from Thacher Island to Fort Devens and even to the Junior Officers' quarters located in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Barboza owned a German Shepherd Dog and while at Fort Knox he would walk his dog with future FBI agent John Morris. John Morris was a member of the military police at the time. In May 1968, the Deegan trial began. After 50 days of testimony and deliberations, the jury returned a guilty verdict. Found guilty and sentenced to death were Peter J. Limone, Louis Greco, Henry Tameleo and Ronald Cassesso. Sentenced to life in prison were Joseph Salvati and Wilfred Roy French.

Barboza was paroled in October 1975 and moved into a $250-a-month apartment under the name "Joseph Donati". He took the last name from small-time underworld figures, identical twin brothers Richard and Robert Donati. After he was befriended by small-time South Boston hoodlum James Chalmas, Gennaro Anguilo was at last informed of his whereabouts. On February 11, 1976, Barboza left Chalmas' San Francisco apartment and walked towards his Oldsmobile. He was armed with a Colt 38 but never had a chance to draw it. He was hit by four shotgun blasts from close range, killing him instantly.

Ilario Zannino, chief enforcer of Gennaro Anguilo, was later overheard saying to an associate on a hidden bug that it was J. R. Russo who had assassinated Barboza. In the conversation, Zannino described Russo as "a genius with a carbine."

RALPH GALIONE KILLED BY THE GAMBINO FAMILY FEARING HE WOULD COOPERATE IN A MURDER INVESTIGATION OF JAMES MCBRATNEY.

Ralph "Ralphie Wigs" Galione (August 31, 1936- December 20, 1973) was a hitman for the Gambino crime family and worked in John Gotti's Bergin Hunt and Fish Club crew.

Galione, Gotti, and Angelo Ruggiero were ordered to murder James McBratney, an Irish-American who was involved in the kidnapping of Emanuel "Manny" Gambino. The hitmen had acquired several phony police badges and walked into a bar on May 22, 1973 and asked for McBratney to come with them. He wasn't fooled, so the gang pointed a gun at the other patrons and ordered them to cooperate with them as they abducted McBratney. One patron didn't comply and, as Galione pushed the patron, the gun accidentally fired. In a panic, Galione shot McBratney three times and left. Due to the enormous heat generated, Galione was seen as a threat by his bosses and shot dead outside his Brooklyn apartment several months after McBratney's murder. He is the father of Lucchese crime family mobster James Galione and a suspected relative of Chicago Outfit mobster Frank Galione. Frank Galione was an influential mob associate of Angelo LaPietra who acted as a bodyguard and chauffer for mobster Ronald Jarett. His son James later in his adulthood followed Ralph into a life of organized crime. His son James was only eleven years old when Ralph was murdered in retaliation for his actions taken in the James McBratney murder.

Frank "Frankie Pearl" Federico was born on January 3, 1928. On August 10, 1989 Federico murders Long Island carters Robert Kubecka and Donald Barstow at the offices of the Kubecka Carting Company at 41 Brightside Avenue, East Northport, New York because of their cooperation with law enforcement’s investigation of the carting industry on Long Island. In October 1989, two months after the slayings, Federico became a made man in the Lucchese Crime Family. The ceremony was conducted by Vic Amuso, who was a fugitive at the time, and held in a basement in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn. According to testimony of turncoat, and former acting boss, Joseph DeFede Federico was placed under capo Anthony "Bowat" Baratta. In March 1993 Federico was given a subpoena to appear before a grand jury in the Eastern District of New York and provide blood and hair samples for comparison with evidence recovered at the murder scene. Rather than appear Federico fled. A warrant for his arrest was issued. In April 1994 a second warrant for his arrest was issued on charges that he, together with other members of the Lucchese family, engaged in a pattern of racketeering that included the Kubecka-Barstow murders. But Federico was nowhere to be seen. It was believed he was hiding in Europe, more specifically Italy.


On January 27, 2003 at 6:50 pm authorities arrested Federico at a Twins Doughnut shop on East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx. Federico was there for a meeting with a former associate. Later it was confirmed that it was Federico’s blood that was found at the East Northport, L.I., office murderscene. In September 2004 Federico was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 1989 murders. Attorney William Gurin said that given Federico's advanced age, the penalty was essentially a life sentence. With time off for good behavior, Federico would be eligible for release at 88. Brooklyn Federal Judge Frederic Block said it was unfortunate Federico had even a glimmer of hope of freedom someday.

DANIEL SEIFERT AND ALLAN DORFMAN KILLED BY THE CHICAGO MOB -FOR COOPERATING AND SUSPECTED COOPERATION



The first was in 1974 -- the slaying of businessman Daniel Seifert. Seifert ran a fiberglass business in the suburbs and was an unwitting front for Lombardo. Lombardo and Seifert were so close that Lombardo baby-sat Seifert's kids.

But when the feds came calling and Seifert decided to cooperate, Lombardo decided his friend had to go, authorities charge. On Sept. 27, 1974, Seifert was gunned down outside his Bensenville factory as his wife and 4-year-old son watched. With Seifert dead, the charges against Lombardo evaporated. Lombardo is charged in connection with Seifert's murder in the Family Secrets case along with racketeering.

The next to go was insurance magnate Allen Dorfman, who went on Hawaii golf vacations with Lombardo. Lombardo was close to Dorfman, a clout-heavy insurance broker. Lombardo and Dorfman allegedly schemed to control the Teamsters' pension funds, which loaned millions to build Vegas casinos.

Lombardo would allegedly muscle people for Dorfman.

In one conversation, secretly tape-recorded by the feds, Lombardo spoke to mob lawyer and casino investor Morris Schenker, who wasn't coming up with the money Dorfman believed Schenker owed the Outfit.

"Now, it's getting to the point now where you either s - - - or get off the pot," Lombardo said to Schenker, who was 72 at the time of the 1979 conversation.

"If they come back and tell me to give you a message and if you want to defy it, I assure you that you will never reach 73," Lombardo said.

Schenker died of natural causes. Dorfman did not, getting gunned down in 1983 in Lincolnwood after Outfit leaders worried he'd turn stool pigeon

MARINO is charged with the 1989 murder of THOMAS
SPINELLI, a made member of the Gambino Family. In the months
leading up to SPINELLI's death, concern arose in the Gambino
Family about his testimony in a federal grand jury about many of
the mafia's members and activities. As a result, MARINO, working
with various co-conspirators, including JOHN J. GOTTI (who was
then Boss of the Gambino Family) and SALVATORE GRAVANO (who was
then Underboss) set out to kill SPINELLI to prevent him from
further testifying. MARINO and his co-conspirators lured
SPINELLI to a window company in Brooklyn, where he was shot in
the head and killed. MARINO then helped to dispose of SPINELLI's
body, which has never been found.
