A spokesperson for Drake has finally addressed the singer's purported ex-girlfriend's lawsuit for unpaid royalties and declared it without base. Ericka Lee is credited in the liner notes for the song "Marvin's Room" as a vocalist under the name of "Syren Lyric Muse," but she claims their agreement had specified more than that written line of recognition.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the lawsuit filed in July 2011 alleges that she made significant contributions to the overall work and that Drake had promised her 2% of "publishing royalties." Lee also revealed that their partnership had also been romantic, but after their falling out followed by her hiring a lawyer, Drake supposedly made threats in reaction to her complaints and made her an offer of a $50,000 payment with 4-5% royalties to prevent litigation.
A follow-up in TMZ reveals Drake's response, saying, "she consented to the use of her voice in the song 'Marvin’s Room' for no compensation." Their single, where Lee provided vocals playing the character of an ex who is pined after by a man whose fame is interfering with his love life, made it to the 21st spot in Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.
