The doors of Doug E. Fresh's Harlem restaurant will be open for more than its eponymous Chicken & Waffles tonight. Fresh and UTFO member Kangol Kid are gathering in the eatery to educate their community on the rights and privileges of voting during the election this fall.
“There are so many people in my community who don’t even bother to register because they don’t think their vote will make a difference,” Doug E. Fresh told AllHipHop. “I think we, as celebrities, have an obligation to change that mindset. We want to show the world that Hip Hop has a voice, and our vote does count.”
The public rally will take place on June 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. and is supported by Democratic candidate for the 13th Congressional District Clyde Williams. The former Clinton Advisor believes that Harlem, in particular, is in "a pivotal place" right now. “For the first time in 40-years, the top leadership could change, and the people should have a say in that change by voting.”
