defunct Crip sets

Many neighborhoods can not maintain themselves with the level of competition. They may get pulled into other neighborhoods or they just fade out. Only discuss those areas from LOS ANGELES that are gone.

defunct Crip sets

Unread post by Silencioso » September 28th, 2011, 1:32 pm

The 1982 gang booklet I posted had a few unfamiliar Crip gangs.

Anybody remember:

Ant Hill Crips
Place Boy Crips
Ghost Town Watts Crips
Ghost Town Crips (Lynwood)
8 Ball Panthers AKA Rollin' 8's
Frog Town Crips (!?)
Pasadena Playboy Gangsters
Converse Alley Crips
Madison Street Crips
McKinley Crips
Oak Street Crips
Square Hood Gangster Crips
Watts Playboy Gangsters
357 Crips

Do you think it's fairly accurate? It seems pretty complete except for a few strange ommissions.I think it's strange they included all those little stoner gangs but not punker gangs like Suicidal and LADS, that were active by '82 and were involved in the same basic activities. I guess stoners were more established than punx at that point. They also missed several Asian/Pinoy gangs like BNG, Buddha Crips and Jefrox. Some of the names brought back memories - Venice Hoodlums, Mar Vista 13, Via, Venice Boys, Santa Monica Crips.

I first saw that L.A. gangs booklet in the early 90s, and I've always thought "Converse Alley Crips" was a hoax, i.e., someone hit it up somewhere, and the cops took the bait. The location doesn't make sense.

Also:

Altadena Playboy Gangsters
Pasadena Crips
East Side Pasa

As a footnote, there also were some fools in my HS (in Pasadena circa 1983) calling themselves "Insane Blood Gang", one of whom was new to the school and had a Van Ness Gangsters tattoo on his arm. I also saw them hit up somewhere at that time. Tiny so-called "gang"; don't know if they make the grade here.

I f-cked up that post; the last two obviously weren't Crip gangs. Wasn't paying attention.

There has never been a Watts or Pasadena Playboy Gangster, the only Playboy Gangsters in existence from DAY1 are the West L.A. Playboy Gangsters. Only other gangs with the name "Playboy" in their name are the Hispanic Playboys 13's, Playboy Hustlas, and I've never really heard of the Playboy Styles really ever being active.

Can't believe 1st Street East Coast Crips ain't mentioned. Used to be over at Aliso Village and was like the only Black gang in that part of town as it's right between East LA and Downtown. Surrounded by Hispanic gangs all around. The gang became defunct when the projects in Aliso Village got torn down and now they're nicer family homes and apartments.

I've heard the OG members still rep 1st Street ECC and it's possible all the former members got integrated in ECC in South Central. But they basically no longer have a hood and don't stay in the original hood.

Anyone know about Baldwin Hills Gangster Crips?

Their hood is supposedly in those apartments near La Cienega & Rodeo across from the Target to the east. I don't know much about them but I heard they were never big and aren't really active right now. Anyone know when they started and when they died out (if that's true)?
