Cabbage Patch Pirus [Kabbage Patch Park Gang] are a Black & Samoan Blood gang in Carson, CA located in the area of Dolphin Park near Water & 213th Streets. Their turf is bordered by Wilmington Ave (east) and the 405 Freeway (south/west) and south of the Shell Oil Refinery, immediately in the area where Shell Oil was responsible for discharging pollution.
Shell Oil Corporation used storage tanks on the land for 40 years, up until the 1960s, when the company sold the land to a developer. Residents did not learn about the storage facilities or the contamination until 2009 when toxic investigators happened upon the contamination while examining a different site. While Shell did admit to causing the pollution, the company refused to clean up the area claiming that the responsibility rested with the developers that purchased the land..
In 2015, Shell Oil agreed to pay $90 million to settle a dispute with residents of Carson who lived above a contaminated former oil storage site and the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board has ordered the company to pay for remediation of soil and groundwater around and under nearly 300 homes.
