From gang member, to prisoner, to entrepreneur: Kevon Gulley from Compton

– Kevon Gulley, grew up in Compton and became a member of the Fruit Town Pirus as a youth. He was sent to prison for car jacking, robbery and kidnapping. He was released from prison, but just after three years, he was sent back to prison, facing a life sentence under California’s Three Strikes Law. He eventually accepted an 8-year deal.

While in prison in 2009, he authored “Just Like Compton” and had it published when he was released in 2010. He then started “Ratchet Denim Company” a clothing company that has a huge following in California. Kevon also started a non-profit organization, Save Black Boys, an 8-point program focused on empowering youth with the goal of establishing a 24-hour recreation education center.
