Interview: Rollin’ 40s Crip on possible Hoover truce

Baby Runner, aka Double R (Road Runner) is from Rollin 40s Crip and you may have seen him in the documentary “Why We Bang.” We caught up with Double R to ask him what is going on in his life. Although he is cool with Bloods & Crips from various neighborhoods, he has not been able to remedy the rivalry with the Hoovers, their number one enemy.
Because he has lost friends as a result of the rivalry with the Hoovers, not just Double R, but countless individuals cannot forgive the loss of a close friend. Double R makes an interesting distinction between the hard core member and the average member of the gang that’s not out there killing. At 2:27 of the clip he states that if the rival member is a “mark” then he has no problem with him, a “mark” meaning that he is not a rider, killer, or a hard core member of that set.
Part of the 40s Crip neighborhood in Los Angeles goes east to the 110 Freeway and they are geographically close to the 52 Hoover Gangsters.

Jquan, my brother, what you wrote is some real talk. I don’t bang and I’ve never been a banger, but I do live in a hood that’s controlled by gangs. I’m willing to make some sacrifices to help any of my people make a change for the better. Everytime I read about or hear about a young brotha or sista falling victims to these streets because of banging the first thing that pops in my mind is that there goes another doctor, lawyer, engineer, teacher, etc, that never got a chance to reach their full potential. My brother, it hurts to see so many mothers and fathers crying, because they’ve lost a child to unnecessary violence. Your idea is a great idea and should be implemented ASAP!!! Peace my brother. Jquan, you started to sound good in the beginning, then you went for that “Godfather Part 2” BS.
U had a good idea to sponsor a youngster in the hood so they wouldn’t fall into that hole later in life, but you failed miserably when your intentions were so you could use that person later in life. You won’t take responsibility to get yourself out of the hole, so you put it on the shoulders of someone you “helped” earlier in life to give you a ticket out. You’d be better off letting them chance their survival on their own where they have a 50-50 chance to survive than to be your indentured servant later in life.
Are you that shackled to your hood you can’t get out on your own? You are where the white man wants you, in the hood, out of the way, out of their hair and k-ingg yourselves with either guns or substance abuse. Your best weapon is not an AK-47, but it’s education. EVERYONE has the potential to earn a degree, once you have it, aint no one can turn you down for a job.
I’m a white dude myself, BUT nothing was ever handed to me. I fought the streets myself. And I never got a degree and I got turned down for jobs because younger guys “put it in the work” at a college and so they get the job. So I learned a trade and now I make decent money, and I did it on my own, owing nothing to nobody for my sucess.
All you need is the desire, the rest will fall in place, and don’t tell me because I am white I had an advantage, I didn’t. I did it on my own and it took me 35 years to get to where I wanted to be, but I got there. U can get there bro.
