Damian “Football” Williams speaks on the LA Riots from prison

Los Angeles — The person found most responsible for the brutal beating of truck driver Reginald Denny during the 1992 Los Angeles Riots, Damian “Football” Williams has spoke out on this 20th anniversary of the Uprising. Williams was sentenced to 10-years for his role in the beating which included throwing a blunt object at Denny’s face which was followed by a brief dance.
Williams was acquitted of attempted murder charges but was found guilty of mayhem against Denny and of misdemeanor assaults on others, based on what was captured on video.
Williams, then 19, and a member of the Eight Tray Gangster Crips (ETG) admits to making “many mistakes and errors.” He was released from prison in 1997 but in 2000 he was accused of participating in the murder of Grover Tinner, 48 and former 74 Hoover, who ran a crack house on Gage Ave in South Los Angeles.
Williams and his accomplice, Tyrone Killingsworth, a former Shotgun Crips member from Gardena were both found guilty in 2003 for their roles in Tinner’s death. Williams was sentenced to 51 years in prison even though he was not the trigger person and Killingsworth received 130 years in prison.

I work at the Calipatria prison and D.W. is in protective custody for many reasons. He has been sexually assaulted and gang raped more than once. He has learned that he is not as tuff when it is 5 against 1 and he does not have the five. I also found out when someone came to visiy him that he was a star on the freshman team because he scored 5 touthdowns. Big deal. He dropped out of school and was never a star. Very sad that the newspapers have given him the satisfaction of being called a star when he was nothing more than a freshman.
I hope what you wrote is true. I dont understand why this cowardly criminal is almost heralded and regarded with a level of prestige as an activist.
