Los Angeles – The application process for the next LAPD chief began on September 2, 2009 and on the same day, the Los Angeles Police Commission, had their first of five community meetings to hear from the public about what they wanted to see in their next chief. We had a chance to speak with Detective Charlie Beck, one of the top candidates for LA’s top cop, and he spoke to us about how he believed it was important for LA’s next chief to be an insider, his qualifications, the work that Chief Bratton has accomplished during the last seven years and the controversial arrest of LAPD Detective Stephanie Lazarus who is accused of murdering her former boyfriend’s wife, Sherri Rae Rasmussen, 29, back in 1986.

The two stars on the collar represent the rank of Deputy Chief I, which is the third highest rank in the department. If he becomes chief, he will add two more stars to that collar.

Great interview, alex you are a class act. You go from interviewing gang members to interviewing the top brass of the LAPD. How do you do that? very impressive. Also Beck seems to be a good cop.
