55-year-old suspect Victor Joseph Espinoza was arrested on Friday for allegedly trying to abduct a 10-year-old boy. Espinoza is a known gang member with a long rap sheet, according to authorities.
Espinoza was taken to the Orange County Jail and booked on charges of false imprisonment, child annoyance, and gang enhancements.
Investigators said the 10-year-old who did not know the suspect was going to soccer practice with his 19-year-old female cousin when Espinoza lured the victim close enough to grab him.
Stacey Butler, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, spoke to the boy’s coach. He wanted to remain anonymous and didn’t want to show his face on camera. The coach told Butler that the boy was a second child that Espinoza reportedly tried to grab. The first child, who also got away, was a female.
Espinoza remains in jail on $100,000 bail.
