Male Cleveland bus driver slugs woman after she berates him

A 25-year-old female passenger on a Cleveland RTA bus hurled repeated insults at the bus driver. The video shows Shi-dea N. Lane, 25, arguing with 59-year-old Artis Hughes, a Cleveland Regional Transit Authority driver of 22 years.

After about 3 minutes, Lane can be heard threatening the driver and then lunging at him in an aggressive manner. Hughes, then stands to his feet, strikes Lane and then tosses her off the bus.

Hughes said he was acting in self-defense, explaining that Lane grabbed his throat, spat in his face, struck him with her fist and knocked a cell phone out of his hand according to a police report obtained by Ohio newspaper The Plain Dealer.

Hughes has since been suspended and removed from duty by the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) after the video was posted.

Both parties involved in the fight have declined to press charges. A petition in support of Hughes to return to work has over 1,000 signatures.
