Black and Brown Conflict in Los Angeles
One of Los Angeles' dirty little secrets is the rising tension between Blacks & Mexicans which is a situation that is being swept under the rug by the media, politicians, law enforcement and researchers, but for about 12 years, this has been a growing concern for residents in South LA, the South Bay area and the Westside. This conflict has manifested itself on several levels from the prisons, to high schools, among the gangs and subtly in local politics. The local print & broadcast media has nearly ignored this story completely, with the exception of FOX 11 News who produced a few stories on several murders in Compton between Black and Hispanic gang members back in 2001, but as I see it, each year in Los Angeles, the conflict between Blacks and Browns although small, is growing and the murders are slowly climbing.
From the 1940s through the early 1990s in Los Angeles, Hispanic & Black gangs rarely engaged in conflict, exhibiting more solidarity between the two groups. But something changed in the early 1990s, and conflict between Blacks and Hispanics were increasing. There has been much speculation on the root causes to the conflict, ranging from expanding drug markets, gang turf conflict, demographic and population shifts, and the California Prison influence.
Conflict between the groups has occurred at several High Schools, including Inglewood, Centennial, Luzinger, Jordan Downs and Hawthorne High Schools. Some of the first gang conflicts occurred in the Venice area of Los Angeles between the Culver City 13 Boys and Venice Shore Line Crips and soon thereafter, the 18th Street gang (Hispanic gang) were warring with
theBlack P Stones (Black gang). Today there are over a dozen areas in Los Angeles where this conflict is currently active and its tenticles are spreading to other pockets in the region.
In Highland Park the Avenues gang since the late 1990s have been actively using aggressive violent tactics to discourage black residents from living in the area. Using pre-1940s lynch mob metality, the Avenues have resorted to murder to send a message to Blacks; get out and don't come back. Just last month, jury selection began for the murders of Christopher Bowser who was gunned down on December 11, 2000 and Kenneth Kurry Wilson, 38, who was also murdered in Highland Park. Several Avenue 43 members have been federally indicted for their role in the murders in Highland Park.
On June 30, 2006, several Hispanics were shot and murdered on East 49th Street near Central Ave in South LA. There is a bit more print media coverage of this shooting, but the racial element is always being downplayed, suggesting that the problem between Blacks & Browns is not that serious. In fact Mayor
Villaraigosa stated that although the assailants of the murders on 49th Street are Black and the victims are Hispanic, there is nothing to suggest that these crimes were racially motivated. Time will tell to reveal the motive in this recent multiple murder, but there does not appear to be enough vocal outrage about the plight of Black/Brown relations in Los Angeles.
Although major conflict between Blacks and Hispanics can be traced back to 1993 in Los Angeles, mainstream media, print and television, had given little attention to this growing problem during the 1990s while I was trying to bring this story to the forefront. Even after the Highland Park murders in 1999, both the Los Angeles Times & Los Angeles Daily News passed up on this story until five years later when the Federal Government charged those involved. Fox 11 News in Los Angeles were the first to call me on this issue back in 2002 when they wanted to do a story on me and suggested one on the on Black / Brown conflict in Compton. The story below aired on April 24, 2002.

I don't have a problem with Mexicans, but why do they jump blacks? That is a sign of fear. Every time you hear about a situation between blacks and browns, the browns are either busting their guns or jumping us. Be real men, and stop that coward bullshit! This is a true story about a little brown monkey named Joe that I used to know 7 about years ago.
We met in college and we became what I had thought was the best of friends.
I treated him lunch everyday at school, but he never returned the favor.
And I would also hang out with him alot on the weekends whenever he needed company, since he was such a lonely desolate fucker/loser/wimp.
Whenever I went to his house, I would always bring gifts for him and his family.
And they ALWAYS took that shit for granted, man like as if I actually OWED them like BIG FUCKING BUCKS or something!
Once, I even stood up for him in a fight when he almost got his weak little ass beat up by a bully at school.
I never did or said anything bad to him, neber disrespected his family, never called him any funny names whatsoever, nor have I ever even argued with him about anything for as long as I’ve known him.
His cheap-ass parents never gave him any allowance you see, so obviously he had money problems; so I guess you can say that I’ve been helping him pay for ALOT of things in college, that cheap dirty little shitfuck.
He said that he wasn’t getting anywhere in college and was always shit outta luck with his grades because he obviously had shit for brains.
His impotent filipino dad (a totally worthless bastard) works all night as a security guard at some hotel downtown, so he’s often left alone at home with his mom from 5PM to 5AM in the morning.
No wonder they call him a MOTHERFUCKER!
His mother works like 12 hours a day at the hospital as a night-shit nurse, and by the time she gets home from work, she would be so goddamn dead-tired that she wouldn’t give a fuck or a shit even this asshole sonofabitch DID try to fuck or rape her in bed because that’s just how fucked-up these monkeys are; as the family that sleeps together STAYS together.
His 40-year old filipino mother is short, skinny and hella easy to fuck anyway, I bet they probably do it while standing up in the shower when they’re alone together in the house.

He would tend to give me some motherfucking additude problems at times and suddenly go all APE SHIT on me for NO fucking apparent reason whatsoever, like he was totally high on a fucking monkey trip or something and just acted like a fucking faggot-bitch in general whenever I saw him or tried to talk with him.
He would be all up in my ASS for NO fucking reason whatsoever eventho when I hadn’t even done ANYTHING to him at all.
The only reason why he kept in touch with me was because he wanted get at my money and my car.
Everybody that I knew in college was telling me that he was trying to take advantage of me and that he was just USING me to get what he fucking wanted but could NOT afford.
Yet, I still kept my faith like the good ol’ pal I was and tried my best to remain friends with him all these years (against my will) despite having to tolerate all the shit and everything that he threw at me from time to time; simply because I believed in a lasting friendship.
Until one fine spring day in 2003, he suddenly INSISTED that he wanted to take my new car out for a ride because he needed to go somewhere to buy videogames or some shit.
At first, he told me that he was INSURED, but it wasn’t until later that I found out he had been LYING to me.
Behind the wheel, this asshole acts like he can really drive or something but he actually can’t drive SHIT.
Knowing that he didn’t have a car and that he really needed to get somewhere, I decided to let him drive my car and hop along anyway because I TRUSTED that sonofabitch — BIGGEST FUCKING MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!
Then when we were on highway 280, he got us into a BIG FUCKING CAR ACCIDENT that nearly got us both KILLED.
He got scared of a car that was appraoching from next to us, then he pussied out all of a sudden and lost control of the car (at 70+ mph), we spun out 3 times, then this stupid motherfucking monkey shit just stopped the car sideways right in the middle of the highway (a very stupid and dangerous act) and just let it sit there between 2 lanes without even trying to steer clear of incoming traffic and get us outta there.
Luckily, the drivers behind us saw what happened and quickly reacted by slamming on their brakes in order to avoid/pass us, but at least one of the approaching cars still hit us tho; and it hit us HARD, man.
My car got totaled, and some people in the other car got injured; but thank god NOBODY was killed on that day… God bless all those safe and responsible drivers who were behind us at the time!
If you ever saw the actual diagrams of the accident on the police report, it would’ve scared the LIVING SHIT out of you, I swear.
I suffered a severe neck injury from the accident and couldn’t fucking work because I had to go on rehab treatment for like SIX FUCKING MONTHS.
Over the rest of the year, I was constantly in fear that the other party involved in the accident would try to fucking sue us.
I had no choice but to hire an attorney; not for the sake of accident claims, but to protect myself just in case because it did actually turned out that the other party was trying to sue ME for injuries and damages since I was obviously the sole owner of the vehicle!
It was THEN when this dirty little shit-brown monkey faggot motherfucker started to show his TRUE COLORS.
During the whole legal process (which was already very stressful for me as it is right after suffering a neck injury), not only did this worthless piece of shit motherfucker NOT try to back me up at all or co-operate with my lawyers; but he even tried to BACKSTAB me by blaming it all on ME for creating the accident eventho HE was driving the car!
And let me tell you something…
For the record, at the time of the accident I was NOT drunk, I was WEARING my seatbelt, and the fact that I was seated FIRMLY in the passenger-side seat with my hands to MYSELF and was NOT talking to anybody so I could NOT have possibly been doing ANYTHING to cause the accident for that matter.
It waz all HIS fucking fault that he can’t fucking drive, not mine!
But he didn’t give a fuck or a shit about all that, and just told me that I was wasting his time!
He told me that he had ‘BETTER THINGS’ to do during his spring break.
He didn’t care that his best friend was probably going to end up getting sued all because of HIM.
He didn’t wanna assume ANY kinda responsibility for the damages like repairs or fees whatsoever eventhough HE was the fucking culprit who got us all into this mess because HE was the one who wanted to go in the very first place.
He was a totally self-centered bastard who was only concerned with his OWN interests.
I gave him like EVERYTHING I had, and in return he just treated me like a piece of SHIT.
So, I ended up losing my car, my job, and a whole lot of money for absolutely NO fucking reason at all.
What in the name of fuck did I ever do to deserve this kinda bullshit? That’s some MOTHERFUCKING BULLSHIT!
You see, this was HIS pile of shit and I am the unfortunate victim who took it right in the mouth.
I think that he would also greatly endanger the lives of many other drivers on the road too if he was ever allowed to drive again.

The reason why the media denies the racial conflict between blacks and hispanics is because they don’t want to pump up or hype up the situation, and cause more conflict in the streets! This was a great campaign, however I have to say that I received an ElfYourself of me from a friend, and never knew what company it came from. It seems like I’m the exception to the rule though, given the high search volume for Office Max related terms over December. I would be really interested to analyse the long term impact of these kinds of campaign on sales/brand awareness.
