Just as Chris Brown’s probation was to come to an end, the officer responsible for signing off on his time resigned. Richmond Police Chief Bryan Norwood reportedly made special efforts to take Brown’s case from the Probation Department, writing a letter to court that claimed the R&B singer had completed all his community service hours that are now under suspicion.
Chris Brown was convicted in 2009 for the assault of his on-and-off-again girlfriend Rihanna and sentenced to 180 days of community service, 100 days of which Norwood vouched were completed. L.A. County investigators have since claimed that not only did Norwood rarely check on Brown’s progress, according to the L.A. Times, but Brown was allowed to travel without securing proper permits amongst other possible violations.
Richmond, Virginia Mayor Dwight Jones formally accepted Norwood’s resignation and announced former Assistant Chief of Police Ray J. Tarasovic’s coming out of retirement to fill the Chief position.
