Nick Cassavetes, the co-writer of “Blow,” has confirmed that he will be directing a movie about Rick Ross’s rise as a crack cocaine kingpin. Rick Ross was notorious for his drug dealing in the early 1980s in Los Angeles, claiming the supply which moved at 100 kilograms per day came from Nicaraguan Contra rebels.
The director told the LA Times of his inner connection to the story. “My brother was a mercenary. He worked in Central America training the Contras, so in a way the story is personal to me.” Cassavetes wrote to the reporter in an email, “The fact that our government may have been complicit in destroying an entire community of people makes the story personal for everyone.”
Rick Ross has approved the decision of Cassavetes to direct the biopic that will focus on his adult years. Of the film which Cassavetes described as having a point of view on par with “Traffic,” Rick Ross said people will see how a dealer go from being a novice to a drug expert. “We become addicted to the power, the money, the manipulation, the whole lifestyle, the whole drug culture.” The former druglord now travels the country to speak to ex-offenders about rehabilitation.
