With concert promoters trying to repeat the technological wonder of reviving performers via hologram, someone has finally stepped up to voice an opinion against the medium. Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s widow did not approve the announcement that her late husband ODB would be virtually reproduced for the Rock the Bells Festival lineup.

“I am disappointed that Rock the Bells would not contact me directly about the use of my husband’s image,” Icelene Jones told Rolling Out.

Chang Weisberg, head of Rock the Bells organizers Guerilla Union, said he had reached out to ODB’s mother Cherry Jones, who approved the idea but has had disagreements with Icelene in the past. The estate of ODB, real name Russell Jones, currently has a cease and desist order issued against the concert.

ODB was a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, and show business has continued running down the family line with their son Young Dirty Bastard making regular appearances with his Uncle RZA. AllHipHop reports that at least Eazy-E’s “virtual performance” is fully supported by his widow.
