One way to turn a broken phone into an blessing is to sell it on ebay, if the phone was broken by Rihanna. The pop star was attempting to take a selfie with Police Commission president Steve Soboroff at a Clippers playoff game May 10 when she dropped the device.

Soboroff’s cracked gadget was signed by the young artist the next day: “Sorry! I (love) LAPD. Rihanna.” The phone later found itself on ebay and, ultimately, to the Grammy Museum for display.

The singer pledged $25,000 to the Los Angeles Police Foundation, matched by Soboroff, who put the phone up for auction with proceeds portioned for the Los Angeles Police Memorial Fund in support of the families of fallen officers. The phone, which is still functional, netted $66,500.

Rihanna had the idea to take a photo when she found herself and the commissioner had appeared at the game wearing matching LAPD bracelets. The winning bidder donated the phone to the music museum. Soboroff seemed in good spirits about the whole situation.
