Leader of Jamaican gang The Shower Posse, Christopher “Dudus” Coke, was sentenced to 23 years in prison last Friday. The gang’s notoriety for international drug and weapons trafficking using violence and intimidation was spotlighted in BET’s “American Gangster.” Co-founder Vivian Blake made a public call to have a special biopic made of the gang in 2009 at his own capture and reduced sentence on a plea deal, but he died of a heart attack in 2010, and it remains to be seen how Dudus will evaluate his term behind bars.

Dudus was caught in Kingston disguised as a woman in a wig and glasses and ultimately pleaded guilty to racketeering and conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering. He is well known for employing a “small army of soldiers” to defend his drug trafficking operations and received no break for admitting these crimes.

The late Vivian Blake envisioned hip-hop producer Irv Gotti directing a documentary on their gang in his video message to Sony Pictures Chairman Michael Lynton. AllHipHop quoted an estimate of 1,400 drug-related murders during the illicit operations of The Shower Posse, whose profits from stateside smuggling transactions were partly funneled back in support of the Jamaican Labor Party.
