MC Lyte is currently in the middle of a week-long tour with iLEAD in South Africa, encouraging youth across the ocean to become leaders of the future. The project is a collaboration between the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and Valiant Innovative Creations.

“As an entertainer and entrepreneur, I have spent my life finding ways to motivate the next generation,” said MC Lyte in a quote by AllHipHop. “I am extremely excited about joining this tour and being a part of the TMCF initiative in South Africa. I encourage other celebrities to use their star power for great initiatives like this one.” Evidence supporting those words include her hosting HipHop 4 Life’s annual “Youth Fest,” a self-esteem building workshop for teens at John Jay College in New York last fall. With iLEAD, this work continues in the spirit of U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall’s education advocacy.

iLEAD launched June 10 and runs until the 17th to coincide with South Africa’s Youth Month. Other celebrity participants include Lil Mama and DJ Vinny da Vinci.
