Bates Academy Wins Big Sean Visit as “Celebrity Principal for a Day”

big-sean-principal-detroitRunning a school is a long labor of credentials, but the unquantifiable excitement of having a “Celebrity Principal for a Day” can so inspire that Big Sean committed himself for the second time. The G.O.O.D Music rapper surprised the students of Lincoln High two years ago, speaking about the importance of education as part of the Get Schooled campaign. On Thursday, he visited another school in Detroit, Bates Academy, to recognize the dedicated students who beat out 37 other schools to win the Viacom co-partnered Detroit Attendance Challenge.

“The correlation between success in life and daily attendance in school is inarguable,” said Big Sean to the reporters of ClickOnDetroit. “As a former DPS student, I could not be more proud of the district for taking the issue of attendance seriously.”

Big Sean further credits the drive to be more involved in education to his own experience at Cblank Technical High School, where he graduated with a 3.7 GPA and was then offered a scholarship to Michigan State University.
