Audi had been under legal fire for their 2012 A6 Avant commercial since June when it featured music that was very similar to “Lose Yourself.” The German car company was chased throughout Europe’s courts for its broadcast of an unauthorized interpretation of Eminem’s song and copying the story and style of the artist’s own video promotion of Chrysler 200. The injunctions have finally been resolved with a settlement entailing that Audi apply the damages according to publisher 8 Mile Style’s “Imported From Detroit” campaign to revive the city’s economy.

“Audi has tremendous respect for Eminem and his works and likewise for the Imported From Detroit campaign which was created by Chrysler,” said a statement from the company to The Free Press. It stated further their willingness to “support the revitalization of Detroit by contributing to selected social projects,” the details of which were not released.

Eminem’s original Super Bowl commercial is credited for bringing Chrysler Group LLC back to making a profit margin after nearly filing bankruptcy. The rap-star also invests in his hometown through the Marshall Mathers Foundation.
