Within days of the panic of learning his son had nearly drowned, Usher must now contend with his ex-wife Tameka Foster Raymond’s filing for custody.
On Monday, their son Usher Raymond V (affectionately named Urv) got his arm stuck attempting to retrieve a toy at the bottom of the pool drain. The singer’s aunt and a maid were unable to free the boy but luckily two men working on the house came to his rescue, and one of them was able to provide CPR to revive Urv before the five-year-old was rushed to the hospital.
The child’s mother rushed to his bedside when she heard about the accident and filed for primary custody the very next day. She complained that with his excessive travel, Usher was negligent and “utilizes third-party caregivers to supervise the minor children rather than personally exercising parenting time and providing supervision for the minor children.” When the two divorced and went through the first round of custody battles, Tameka Foster Raymond had lost her son, age 11, to a boating accident.
Usher thanked the hospital professionals who continue to monitor the child’s progress. “I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son’s life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews,” the singer said to People. “They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them.”
The first court hearing is today.
