Nearly a month after Young Calicoe was seen appearing to promote dog and cockfighting in a video released on the internet, the Detroit rapper is still being harangued by the Michigan Humane Society with an allegation of animal abuse. Police raided the Brightmoor property where the video was filmed to find caged pitbulls and roosters still locked on the premises and noticeably malnourished.
The humane society’s spokesperson Kevin Hatman acknowledged to Mlive, “There’s a lot that goes into a potential dog fighting prosecution” before a strong enough case can be made to press charges, but he isn’t waiting for the investigation to be completed in order to target Calicoe to answer for his operations. Calicoe’s manager said that it was simply “a skit.”
“That’s all it was, entertainment, that’s it,” said the manager, who identified himself only as Jason. “He’s just sitting back waiting for this to just blow over, so he can eventually talk about it, so there’s no unanswered questions.” Meanwhile, Calicoe has requested of his Twitter followers, “If u find a video of me “FIGHTING DOGS” PLEEEEZE LET ME KNO.” Although the animals in his video were seen chained and penned, they were not actually recorded being put to fight.
