Twista To Curb Chicago’s Street Violence With Youth Center

Impacted by the recent spike in homicides and gun violence, Chicago’s native son Twista declared his intention to launch a new youth center to mediate what he says are gangs “taking it back to the whole vibe of getting into it with each other.”

The idea came informed by stories from the people in his neighborhood saying that if it weren’t for such-and-such center, they would have ended up on the streets. “I remember growing up in the ‘hood, and there were a lot of people that would have probably been out there doing something bad if they had not have been at a YMCA or some type of club,” said the rapper in an interview on Invasion Radio (Hip Hop Nation).

Twista made particular note of the 1st Street area as the middle point between the west and south side epicenters of conflict, and is considering it as a site for the planned safe haven for Chi-town’s at-risk youth.
