Rapper Beanie Sigel is in hot water with the IRS, facing tax fraud charges on a criminal level.
Federal prosecutors claim that Sigel, real name Dwight Grant, failed to declare some $1.5 million dollars made from 2002 to 2004 in his tax return.
Sigel served some time on weapons and drug charges, and for abusing prescription drugs while on probation. The tax charges came in a federal information filed Wednesday, which typically indicates Sigel’s cooperation.
Beanie Sigel has led anti-violence rallies in his hometown of Philadelphia, and has spoken to many high school students about making good life choices.
Sigel has formed a close association with rap mogel Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella records. His albums “The Truth,” (2000) and “The Reason” (2001) went gold.
Sigel’s lawyer did not immediately return a call for comment.
