Bow Wow and Common have spoken out on the recent beating death of a Chicago teen who was attacked by gang members as he walked to a bus stop on his way home from school.

The two joined other rappers such as Nas, Killer Mike and David Banner in warning against gang violence.

“I just wanna first and foremost send my condolences to the whole Albert family, rest in peace,” Bow Wow said in a self-made video. “We gotta stop this violence. We gotta stop the killing and killing one another.”

Common added that it might be the responsibility of the rappers and the hip-hop artists that are looked up to by these gang members to steer them away from violence.

“I look at it now and say it’s just some of the choices I was able to make because of what I was exposed to and the opportunities I had,” he said. “And because I know these kids don’t have it, I feel like it’s our responsibility to give them the opportunity, to give them the information, to listen to them.”

The murdered student, Derrion Albert, was attacked on September 24. Last year, 34 students were killed in Chicago, and 290 were injured in shootings. Four teens have been charged with the murder.

what we need is the real guyz in the streets callin for peace not these guyz on the outside lookin in…talk to the g’z on a personal level not at press conferences and on the radio….get in the streets talk to them and make them give you there word that theyll do what they can….most of all these young men need jobs and means to support themselves and family. if they felt like they could have jobs that would get them out of poverty believe they would do it….aint nothin more messed up than workin a job all week and still being broke and cant pay your bills
