palm tree laYou can’t come to Los Angeles and not notice the Palm Trees towering over the metropolis in Southern California. These trees line the streets and freeways. You can’t listen to a rapper from LA like ScHoolBoy Q and not hear him rap about “Gang signs and palm trees, bomb weed and becks”. Where did the palm trees come from?

Los Angeles did not start out with the sky duster palms. These various types of palms are exotic and were brought here from areas like Australia, and or the Andes to improve the landscape.

One particular Palm called the Mexican Fan made it on the big screen which lured people to want to come and visit the Southland and witness these tall fans that grow as tall as 150 feet.

The first viewing on screen was in Bing Cosby movies. The entertainment industry made the LA Fan Palms glamorous with it association with sex and celebrity.
