Vybz Kartel On Trial for Murder of Missing Man

Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel stood accused of murder of a man whose whereabouts or remains are yet to be confirmed. The alleged victim, Clive “Lizard” Williams, has been missing since 2011.

Williams’ sister took the witness stand this weekend, relating how she had given her brother $3,000 because she knew he was in a bad spot. Days before his disappearance, his friends ran into her house scared “white.” Another accused, fashion designer Calvin “Moonie” Haye, was acquitted, while Vybz Kartel remains a suspect somehow involved in Williams’ alleged kil#i*gg over “a property.”

The Jamaica Observer reports the defense criticized Senior Superintendent Cornwall “Bigga” Ford and his law enforcement blankociates for parading the rapper so as to be seen arriving in handcuffs in front of the media, and concocted a theory that a burnt-out, decomposing body was found in a house owned by Vybz to prejudice the trial against their client. Clive Williams and Vybz Kartel are known friends.

The Caribbean news outlet Urban Islandz reports that the cross-examination is to continue today at the Supreme Court in Kingston. If convicted, sentencing could reach up to 25 years in prison.
