Former Bad Boy Records talent Loon, or as he now prefers to be known as Amir Junaid Muhadith, was apprehended on his way to giving a lecture at the Islamic and Culture Centre of Belgium last week. According to Parlemento, the rapper was arrested at the request of U.S. authorities by the power of the Patriot Act for unknown reasons. Subsequent news source releases credited the arrest to indictments of drug trafficking.

Loon, born Chauncey Hawkins, gained the media spotlight for his contributions to “I Need A Girl,” produced with Diddy in 2002, and charges of stabbing a security guard two years later at a Los Angeles club. He eventually found Islam as a way to peace and distanced himself from hip-hop, saying, “With me, I very much love the music but it’s the lifestyle that’s really the bad influence.”

Loon was detained at the Brussels Airport on November 22 under heroin distribution charges and is currently held in a prison in Vorst. He had sought asylum for his family in Algeria to escape the “evils of hip-hop.”
