Rev Run Keeping The Pounds Off On Diabetes Awareness Campaign

Rev Run continues his self-help campaigns, this time for diabetes. The eponymous member of rap group Run-D.M.C. said, “At this stage in my life, I had to ask myself the tough questions about diabetes. My dad had it and, just like millions of Americans, I’m at risk for the disease.”

Joseph ‘Rev Run’ Simmons is putting his campaign to test in his own lifestyle, having fought with his weight for years and finally feeling good after losing some pounds to keep up with his music mate Darryl “D.M.C” McDaniels. He told Huffington Post, “We got good reviews for having lots of energy on stage and I realized that if I’m going to continue to do shows … I gotta be in Mick Jagger-type of condition.”

Simmons is at high-risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Through a series of scheduled public service announcement appearances with Novo Nordisk’s Ask.Screen.Know initiative, he wants to dispel the myth that diabetes is primarily genetic and to compel an especially susceptible African American population to take charge of their own well-being. “I’m asking people to be accountable for their health – ask the questions, listen up, and take action.”
