A rumored video shoot went awry on Monday when gunshots were fired across the parking lot of an Oakland liquor store. A crowd of people had gathered near a van affiliated with rapper Kafani’s production crew, resulting in injuries to eight people, including a 1-year-old-boy.

Although the Oakland police identified Kafani as being at the scene when the shooting occurred at 6:08 pm, the rapper corrected on twitter, “News reports wrong I did not shoot a video today. Just cuz a promo van with my picture on it there don’t make me there!!!! I drive a bentley not a promo van!! pray for my lil cuz thx.” Furthermore, he felt outraged and concerned for the injury to the boy, who turned out to be the son of his cousin. One-year-old Hiram Lawrence suffered a bullet to his head. The force was partially shielded by the impact of going through his father’s hand, but he was last reported to still be in critical condition.  “He would take his kid, bring him to the studio, he’d have him with him all day,” said Kafani of his cousin to NBC. “He always wanted to have his son with him. He always kept his son with him.”

The Oakland Housing Authority is stepping up their vigilance as law enforcement continues to investigate the incident.
