C-Murder’s Appeal of Homicide Conviction Delayed

Corey “C-Murder” Miller will have to wait to see if he can get his conviction for killing a 16-year-old fan appealed. The U.S. Supreme Court in Louisiana decided to delay its ruling that was expected to be announced Monday, neither scheduling for arguments nor rejecting the appeal outright.

Part of Miller’s argument, according the NOLA Times-Picayune, is that his conviction was reached without a unanimous verdict, required by most other states except for Louisiana and Oregon, being found guilty by a juror vote of 10-2. His attorneys insist that the vote is inconsistent with the 6th and 14th amendment protections in criminal defense cases. Additionally, one of the jurors told the judge that she had originally voted to convict Miller under duress when they were advised that the case would not be finished until an affirmation of 10 majority votes was reached.

Mary Jacob felt compelled to speed the case along when a fellow juror fell ill. “They literally made this 20-year-old girl so violently ill[…]She couldn’t function anymore. That’s when I decided, the judge don’t want to listen to me, doesn’t want to listen to us? I told them, ‘You want him to be guilty? He’s guilty, now let’s get the hell out of here.’”

C-Murder’s moniker doesn’t seem to bode well for his image either while he still retains a degree of freedom with a “weekend pass” between time in jail.
