What is the new phase of rappers looking like these days?

There seem to be an increasing influx of non-black, or should I say white rappers saturating the industry as of late. I hear names that I have never heard of and then I search them and I find young, white males dressed in the modern day hip hop attire, with some basic hair styles to the most extra.

Hip hop has become extremely commercialized that you find a rap lyric or beat in some basic commercials or even in the jingles of our favorite fast food chains. This is certainly one way that hip hop culture has found its way around the world and into the lives of these young men. I could say it is a compliment to see others who have come from European decent find the genre interesting and appealing and desired to be part of something amazing and vast. But, it has been done time and time again.

However, the question lies… are they making the genre look good or not? Let us consider one particular rapper that is making noise in my own household with a 12 and 13 year old reciting his lyrics. That name is Lil Pump, born Gazzy Garcia, a young 17 year old kid from Miami. Lil Pump wears dreads, colored with a variety of reddish-pink hues framing his face. This is the look of the modern rapper it seems.  Lil Pump recently put out his mix tape last month and with that release on of his song “Gucci Gang” has shot straight onto the Billboard Hot 100 list. Now, I can’t get the song out of my head.

I decided to take a peek at the video and to my dismay the visual was not something a mom who comes from the era of classic hip hop would approve of. I delved into the lyrics to get a better sense of the story being offered in the video and the first bar had me questioning if I should even assault my intelligence further more. Needless to say there is a disclaimer stating “Age-restricted video”but apparently that does not stop anyone from viewing the the content.

After this research I will have to say that I would rather listen to an old Eminem album any day and that his lyrics will be examined and explored more strategically
