Ryan Leslie received a bad rap for not honoring a reward he made for the recovery of his stolen laptop. He made a $20k offer, later upping it to $1 million, for the return of his backpack with a laptop that contained new music in the works, but when the property was returned and he refused to pay, Leslie was brought to court and the jury gave their opinion that he still owed the money.

Leslie argued in part that the offer conveyed over YouTube did not constitute a valid contract, but took to the stage on Friday to address the media’s criticism of backsliding for a more substantive reason: “Eventually, somebody did return that backpack to me. And when I looked in the hard drive to access everything that I had lost, the music just wasn’t there.”

“And so I got up today…and I looked at the headline [in the New York Post], and it said ‘Rap weasel.’ So listen, man. Music always comes from a place of inspiration, and I gotta tell y’all, man – never have I been more inspired than when I lost everything [to then] create the most incredible album I could possibly make.” Leslie noted further that the offer still stands. “And despite what the jury said, that million-dollar offer is still out there for anyone who can return all my compositions to me.”
