Hispanic Gangs in the City of Los Angeles (Central LA & Pico Union area)
The Central area of Los Angeles is represented by Mid City, Pico Union, Westlake, Silverlake, Echo Park & Downtown areas of the city, south of the 5 Freeway, east of Crenshaw Blvd, west of Alameda and north of the 10 Freeway.
Some of the gangs in this area go back to the 1920 such as Temple Street and other formed in the late 1950s and 1960s such as 18th Street and Echo Park, while some of the El Salvadorean based gangs grew in the late 1970s and early 1980s such as Mara Salvatrucha and Crazy Riders.
Alpine Street, which is now defunct was formed near a dog kennel back in the 1980s.
